    Treating rope burns

Had county steer validation today and one of my kids (student, but they all are my "kids") has a pretty salty Brahman cross steer. He got her down a bit in the trailer, and got away from her when they came out. I tried grabbing him but he pulled the length of the lead through my fingers. He also rolled the county agent and smashed another ag teacher into the fence when we got him stopped. When we got him into the chute I ended up in there with him and he tried to get frisky with me, but I was able to fight him off with my size 11 Anderson Beans. Pretty wild for a few minutes.

Anyhow, because of the lead running through my fingers, I had some pretty gnarly blisters form all along the palm side of my fingers. The palm was spared, and there is no broken skin, but the blisters hurt like a 2nd degree thermal burn. My question is, how do you treat something like this? Ordinarily I would leave them alone and let them heal naturally, but its my left hand, and I am extremely left handed. I cant even hold my tooth brush in my right hand. That means that I am constantly using the burned hand which makes it worse. Any advice on what I can do to help them heal faster so I can stop feeling like a wuss?

I'd try to wrap some gauze around them if you can. I had the same problem last week on all my fingers but a few of them ripped open and were burning. I don't know but I think just being out in the air is what makes them hurt. I don't think there's much you can do besides cover them up.

Bucket of ice water for me the last time I tried to stop a horse without a snubbin post.

Yeah, we have some of that, but I wasn't sure if you put that on the blisters or wait till they popped. My youngest touched the wood stove at my in-laws last year and got some second degree burns, and that's what the ER doc gave us. Wasn't sure if it was applied to the blisters or what.

Im gonna probably do both; put the silvadine on then wrap. I guess I just needed confirmation about covering a watery blister. For some reason in my mind that didn't sound right. I guess the wife knows what she is talking about .

Only pop blisters at night so they don't burn.

When I got burned the doctors put that one whether or not the blisters were popped.

They are going to have their hands full getting it halter broke. They better find a donkey to tie it to for a few days/week.

My show steer I won grand with broke 4 of my ribs the first night I had it at my house. I don't think I let that steer stop walking for 48 hours after that. He was tied to one of three rope horses or the back of the farm truck being led around the pasture.

On the rope burn, I always just kept my clean and let it heal on its on.
