How do YOU get UNSTUCK Quickly!

Had a colleague in his high $$ Rover get stuck today at one of our land projects. Roads had a good base, not paved until utilities are in, so 3+" of rain the last 48 hours made it a mess!! It's not cool to have clients wait to be rescued but *##* happens with the best of us.

I've been stuck only ONCE in all my years and the old lease truck was in 4 wheel drive. Cost me a small fortune to get it unstuck by a large backhoe after a good Samaritan oil field truck also got stuck trying to help.

So....considering a winch mounted on the front of my King Ranch...or just keep something in the bed to get traction or both? My physical condition with hip and knees prevents me from doing much so looking for something that will function to escape the "grip" of mud if I mess up?

I'm not "situation ignorant," but just wondering if any GS folks have any ideas I have not considered? As my late Dad used to say..."Getting Old AIN'T for Sissies," but I still have a few years to enjoy my profession...suggestions welcomed!

I drive a Toyota so the word "stuck" isn't in my "vocabulary".

      You better knock on wood.

OP I'd get a winch in your situation and keep about 100' of strap and chain with you.

This is where I'm leaning and already discounted several winches not close to the 100' you mentioned.

I "assume" the Toyota comment was meant to be funny? Anyone who is regularly in "harm's mud way," knows nothing is a sure thing. I talked to my military son a few days ago and even with their "4x4" vehicles it can be a problem in the elements they encounter.

yup...forgot the smiley. bring the toyo or any other vehicle out to our lease when it rains & get back to me.

It better have tracks if you want any chance cuz a 4W Drive will just get you stucker...

I carry a comealong, chain, nylon chokers, and all different size shackles in my tool box. So far, haven't had to use them but have them if ever needed.

Correction...not days but a couple of hours ago talking to my Son.

Whiskers, I'm also considering a hitch mount on the front like you suggested. MANY years past I had a winch that would fit over the 2" ball on the rear bumper. After several years it quit working and I just tossed it. Been looking for one but seems no one makes them anymore?

You can find a winch plate/basket that slides into the receiver
That's actually a great point Whiskers made
It seems like Super winch makes one.

Best way is to use your head. When in doubt turn around. With that being said sometimes it just happens, and when it does, as soon as you realize your stuck, just stop. So many people just try to floor it and all they do is bury themselves so bad it takes lots of time and some serious machinery to get out.

You can mount any winch on a piece of plate with a hole cut out to fit over your hitch knob.

I drove a Toyota, and it was well in mine.

No, it wasn't meant to be funny. I am "regularly in harm's way", probably off-road more than 90% of the people on this forum. From the beach to mud, I've never been stuck. I literally put my truck into 4WD 3-4 times a week. I know it can happen, but most of the problem in getting stuck is people being in places they shouldn't be. Know your vehicles limitations.
