    Havalon replacement blades?

Anyone have a lead on best place to get blades, the 60xt for the smaller knife. Would like to get some in bulk. The havalon site has them for $35 + s/h for 100. That seems decent, just curious if anyone had a better place. Thanks.

The Auction House in Canton used to carry them. Not sure if they still do.

I had gotten mine at Midway USA for pretty cheap, it was the a 50pk and free shipping.

I like the stronger 60As and they are a little pricier

However, if you like the original thinner ones

They are at least free shipping as well.

Ok thanks. Ive had both, couldn't remember the difference in them. So the 60A is thicker/stronger?

A few years ago, I used my dad's Havalon knife to skin a deer. It required 8 or 10 blades to just skin the dang deer. I couldn't understand what all the hoopla over these knives were about, because that sucked.

I found out a year or so ago, that Dad had blades that he'd gotten from his veternarian buddy. They were some cheap Chinese blades. It's no wonder why the vet gave them to my dad.

Anyhow, after watching Matt Hicks use his Havalon to skin and quarter Zach's mule deer last fall, I bought one. I used it on an axis last week. Nice. That was just the regular XT blade. I'm gonna get a pack of the 60A blades, which everyone says hold an edge even longer.

I say all of that to make the point that you should avoid any cheap knock-off blade you may come across. If they're cheap, it's for a reason - they will probably SUCK. Spend the money for the good blades.

Yes. Theoretically it shouldn't matter if all you are doing is slicing through meat and not torqueing it on bones. But I like mine for cleaning/quartering squirrels and rabbits too where I just want to "pop" through some thin bones, etc, so the heftier blade is a nice to have. I cleaned a dozen rabbits and jacks with one 60A blade so I was more than pleased with the durability.

I went thru two on a hog a couple days ago but have done a whole deer with 1. I'm gonna try the thicker ones

They also make a 70 blade that is rounded on the end and makes it easier to not cut through your cape.

Thanks for the help. Midway usa had similiar deal, 100 ct for 34.99 free ship, no tax. Just ordered. Thinking I maybe should've gotten the 60A. Went with the 60xt since that's what I've been using. Haven't had one break, gone through about 50 blades I guess. But curious about them holding an edge longer. The xt should be fine I guess, may get a small pack of A's just to try. Had some before but can't remember if I noticed a big difference.

All I've ever used with my Piranta is the xt blades. When I first started using them I did break a few blades but once I kinda learned the technique I don't remember the last time I've broke one. Find the pressure points and let the blade do the work.

I just change them out pretty often once I feel they've lost some edge. They are way too cheap to worry about a dull edge.

Thanks rascalarms, yeah that's my thoughts too. I can easily do a deer, and still have some left. Hogs are a different story, but i just cut the backstrap on them now anyway. I use mine in the taxidermy shop and it has been a blessing for sure. Huge difference in time spent on skinning and far less knicks and holes.
Hey justincorbell, that sounds about right. Just ordered 100 for $35, so for 200 you were spot on. Thanks.
