I was going to run it on Boot Camp. I read/confirmed that My Macs are newer and don't support Windows versions past 8. My Mac has Boot Camp version 6.0 and you need BC 4-5.1 to make it work. Apple rep confirmed it with me yesterday.

I didn't ask if it made a difference on Parallels or VMware.

Ok folks...learning as I go. Took a drive to the Apple store today and fought the crowds. I really hate the chaos. They informed me that I can run Windows 7 through parallels. I think that's the route I'll have to take.

If I run the parallels software, I am I forever splitting my system in half?

Only until you decide to scrap Parallels and Windows. I had it on one of my Macs for years. No longer needed it so did a full reinstall on the Mac and got all the space back for OS X

The guy at Apple told me that with 16gig of ram and a 2gig video card I should be ok.

I run with 8gb of RAM and auto cad is a little slow so 16gb should be great. I plan on upgrading ym computer as I use auto cad more and more.

Ah makes sense. I used to run bootcamp but that was years ago on an older mac.

Keep asking questions and we'll get you fixed up. You'll learn to love the Mac

When I installed 10 about 2 months ago, I had terrible problems with the wifi staying connected. I saw that was a common problem so I went back to 8. Im guessing with everyone saying 10 is the way to go that problem has been resolved.

Stuff like this is what makes me apprehensive about 10. Working on the Mac means I'll be all WiFi all the time and I can't afford interruptions.

Still not crazy about parallels. I bought the Mac because it is a more stable platform and a more powerful computer overall. What Mac programs are there that make people choose Apple over PC?

For me it wasn't about MAC programs it was about stability and much less chance of viruses. I've been running mine since early 2012 and no problems whatsoever.

I'm not sure how much video card mem i have but I do run 16g of RAM and Parallells with Win 7 and no issues at all.

I'm running 8, but I did this stuff in order to make it run like 7. I've heard to many horror stories from the Windows 10 early guinea pigs, so I haven't installed 10.

We reveal how to water down or ignore some of Windows 8's more controversial features and restore functionality you thought had vanished.

Several programs can prevent the app switcher and charms from appearing when you move your mouse to the corners of the screen in Windows 8, but you can do it yourself with this quick registry hack.

What's your processor speed? When running parallels, do you switch back to the Mac OS and if so...why?

You should be good now to upgrade, just make sure you get the latest anniversary edition that was recently released.

I guess my biggest question is why buy a mac, then spend all this time making it run windows? You can get a custom built pc that will freaking FLY for the same or less money, and run all this stuff right off the bat...
