What new thing are you going to try?

I know deer season is a little more then a month away, but I guess I got the hunting bug a little early this year. Every year I try at least one new thing, whether it be a different stand location, gear, style or tactic. Last year I tried several different things: took my 4 year old son to the stand with me several times, hunted the midday hunt a few times, a different food plot, a different stand location, and even two different binocular and rangefinder holders.

This year I'm wanting to try:
    1. Shooting a deer with my bow out of one of my old gun blinds.
    2. My timed protein feeders. They are already working, but want to see a deer eat out of them while I'm in the stand.
    3. Rattling in a buck.
    4. Get my buddy to shoot a deer with his crossbow. Then maybe with a compound next year.
    5. Get a new set of binoculars for this year, but that might have to wait.
    6. Another type of food plot.
    7. If I rifle hunt then I would like to try and shoot a deer with my grandfathers 30 carbine.

So I guess I asking what is something new you are going to be trying this year. It can be anything from different broadheads to a different lease to even going after a different animal.

Not deer hunt if it's over 75*. Nothing worse than sitting in a blind sweating your code off!

Since my lease is getting sold and I have been unable to find one to my liking my new thing will be hunting at the farm. Should have a chance to sling an arrow or two but probably not in the manner I am accustomed too......

This will be my first year in the field with a bow. Since I'm still not good at any distance past 10 yards my goal is to stalk within shooting distance of a deer..... and not shoot. Yes it sounds odd but I think I'll be more confident next year. So this year if I can get in range I'm going to simply stand up out of the grass as if to say "I could have had you.".

This winter/next spring will be my first year hunting Axis in the northwestern hill country, so I'm really excited about that! Completely different kind of hunting and terrain up there compared to the deep south Texas stuff I'm used to.

I don't know if this counts as something new you speak of but I am going to try making my own deer/pork sausage. Also going to buy a Weston vacuum sealer. I am also going to plant three food plots as apposed to my normally one. Going to hunt from a ground blind over one plot with no feeder. This plot will be on the edge of a wood line on a heavily used trail. I excited to see what happens.

Nothing major, I changed my feeders to spin 4 times a day vs 2, twice in the AM and twice in the PM. I want to see if more corn = more deer or if more corn just means more for the deer already there. I'm going to try to video all my hunts, one of my spots has a tripod so I have to do some thinking about how I'm going to video there. I'm also in 3 new spots this year, one in east Texas and 2 at my Angelo lease. One of the Angelo spots has a cool story behind it so I hope it works out there, would make for a good write up.

Switched all my corn feeders to 800#-1000# and put Krivoman directional units on them. Hoping to get a better "line-up" for the shot and filming.

"Trying something new" for me would be to actually arrow a deer - it's been a while since I have used a tag. This is our second year on this lease - three guys on almost 500 acres of what looks like excellent deer habitat. Deer sightings were spotty last season and we have seen almost none on camera in the last 7-8 months. We keep thinking "they gotta be here somewhere!", it's just a matter of figuring them out....

Jerp do y'all have any food plots? It could be the previous guys shot it out and the population needs to rebuild.

I'm looking into trying a Ozonics just have to muster up the cash to buy one..

Next thing I was thinking about was building a little "smoke shack" for my clothes. Just use one of those tailgate grill and run some flexible hosing into a container and smoke my clothes with oak wood chips and then put them in my storage container. I've tried every scent killer out there and even keep hunting clothes off until I get to the farm and I still get winded.
