Shortest/Quickest Route to Abilene

I might be heading to Abiline on Friday and was wondering what the shortest route I needed to take to get there? I'll be heading out that way from Conroe. Thanks.

I would think Hwy36, I think it changes to a different Hwy between 79 and 35. Should be a decent drive. My company has a ranch in Aspermont just north of Abilene and I just dread making the trip everytime we go.

Have you tried www.mapquest.com or one of the other programs. You can put in the system that you want the quickest route available.

I45 to 287 to Ft.Worth.Exit 287 to I20 to Abiline.

I've been back and forth to Sweetwater my whole life and this is the fastest way I have found by at least 45min or an hour.

From Conroe:
45N to Centerville
7 W to Gatesville
84 W to Abilene

This is the route I'm familiar with because I stay south of Abilene and continue to Sweetwater. Looking at the map you may be better off taking 36 out of Gatesville all the way to Abilene.

From Montgomery:
105 to Navasota
6 to Hearne
79 to Milano
190 to Temple
36 to Gatesville

From Bryan, I take 6 to Hearn, FM 485 to Temple, Hwy 36 to Abilene.

Could take Hwy 6 to Eastland and I20 to Abilene.

Unless the weather changes stay away from 20. I would follow Bboswell routes if it were me. According to our ,ocal weather we are supposed to be in for a heck of a snow storm this weekend so if you do come be careful.

I think the I45 to Dallas then turn left will be the fastest. 6 has towns every 15 or so miles.caldwell like to get your autograph....

I travel to Comanche all the time from the Woodlands and I go 1488 to Magnolia, 1784 to Plantersville and 105 to Navasota. Get on 6 to Marlin. Take 7 west to Gatesville. At Gatesville you intersect 36 right on into Abilene. It may still have some ice on Friday so be careful on your trip.

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I'm not sure if I'm going because I hear that the roads up that way are still pretty crappy?

Hwy 36 is definitely the way to go. So far just rain today. Supposed to snow tonight. Roads are good around Abilene right now, 1:08 pm. Temp is still above freezing.
