    Devils River

We drew Devils River exotic hunt in January.
We haven't been the the state camp and was wanting to get some info.

I have seen pics of the bunkhouse and it looks nice but we usually take a travel trailer for the TPWD hunts and park at the camp. Has anyone ever taken a trailer to the rough campsites? are the roads wide enough and driveable with a trailer?

I went on the first hunt they had. It's come a long way since then I'm sure but the road from the highway to the parking area was good

If you book a room in the bunkhouse, you won't need your trailer. On the road in, just make sure your tires are in good shape. 20+ miles down that rock road is tough on tires.

I was there with you Quakerbox. Still one of the best hunts I have ever been on. Went home with the back of the truck full of meat.

It's been too long to give you any idea about sleeping arrangements. We just stayed in Del Rio.

We drew it last year. We stayed in the bunkhouse. It's nothing fancy, but very nice for a hunting camp. There were a couple people who brought their trailers and parked them next to the WMA office, right across the road from the bunkhouse. Unless you just want to drag your trailer all that way, I recommend the bunkhouse. There are 5 bedrooms that have 2 twin beds each. There are 2 community bathrooms inside the bunkhouse, and then there's another handicap accessible bathroom/shower that is off the porch. Big picnic table on the porch.

There was another bunkhouse that they were working on when we were there. That might be done and available for use now too, I don't know. It looked like it was gonna be pretty nice too.

x2...we drew last year as well and stayed in the bunkhouse. That's definitely the way to go in my opinion.

I don't think they will allow you to take your trailer to the campsites, but will instead make you set it up near the ranger station.

On our hunt, there was a man and his wife that stayed in a hotel in Sonora and drove back and forth every day. That had to suck.

Thanks for info. Wonder when the last exotics were seen or taken besides Rams or audad?

They drift through occasionally. There are a few axis in the pasture near the headquarters where Zach and I hunted the last day of our hunt (along the dry creek bed bottom), but there aren't big populations of exotics on the place. Mostly aoudad and other sheep.

This^^^. I'd add bring lots of ice. You'll need it on your way out

Yes. Take ice with some dry ice in the cooler as well, just to make sure you still have ice. Take EVERYTHING you'll need. It's a long way to town.

Sounds like a good thread topic

We planned on that. Then I remembered a good friends dad owns the property next door. Turn right at the fork instead of left

When I was there, there was a ice machine that we could use. Also got to use the kitchen as well. Ice machine was in a back room from the kitchen. I took everything out of my cooler and put it in the fridge.
Best bet would be to call ahead and see what they have, don't have.
