    Craigslist pretending to be military.

OK folks, I was cruising Craigslist a couple nights ago when I found this. Emailed him, pretty well expecting spam because of the low price. I then Google the name in the Gmail address and come up with the vice commander of an air force base in Idaho.

Here is the bio of the actual David Brynteson. Needless to say it kind of ****** me off out of all the fake names, he chose one of a decorated military member. Here is the email he just sent back.

I think this guy deserves some payback, (besides reported for spam on cl) what day the gs?

Unfortunately there are soooooo many of those type scams on CL it's almost unstoppable. Just about everything time with a low price is a scam.

I avoid Craigslist completely. I will look at prices on there but never ever buy. Too sketchy or potential for sketchiness...

It is unfortunate that they use the military as their scam. I recently listed some custom tires and wheels. Got 2 scammers, both using the military as their reason for not being able to show up at my home. They wanted to send their "agent" with a certified check. Good luck with that. I told them I would be happy to work with their "agent". Just tell him to bring cash in US dollars.

I'd be sending him links to things that nobody wants to see. By the hundreds.

I saw a cheap travel trailer on CL this weekend and emailed just to see if it was real. Got the exact same email, but from "Senior Medic Sgt. Lindsay Jefferson". I'm going to string this guy along for pretending to be a military vet.

Buying things from craigslist is a pretty simple process, don't buy anything that you cant drive and personally look at.

Emailed the air force base, and was told they have several of these scams going right now. Fortunately they are tracking this one so at the very least they have heard of it.

Is there any possible way that these people can be stopped? Stolen Valor is against the law but I don't suppose there's any way of knowing where the are. And if they're in another country I guess there wouldn't be much that anyone can do. I can't stand a liar and a thief. It's pitiful how much of that really goes on.

Yes - but it probably won't happen. Most of these scams are done by organized crime rings in foreign countries. People go to work in the morning in an office somewhere with a bunch of other people and this is what they do all day every day. I would be fine with a drone attack or maybe one of those giant thermobaric bombs that suck all the air out and replace it with flaming plasma.

Once they locate these scammers in the OTHER country then a predator drone visit with one of them special delivery missiles right thru the front door would be adequate.
