I got lit up by the fire ants that live in trees this past weekend. Brushing blinds and they came out of the woodwork. Literally.

I like how they wait till their whole posse gets positioned and all bite or sting in a very persist matter.

Part of their strategy to maximize their effect against prey -- once plenty are on board, they send a pheromone signal to all start biting/stinging at once. It's why you rarely get just a couple of fire ant bites.
