    DIY Aoudad hunt?

I've been interested in getting an Aoudad for awhile now and was curious if it is possible to do a DIY hunt in West Texas or New Mexico. I'm not willing to pay the $4k outfitters seem to want for guided hunts, and don't need fancy lodging and meals.

Black Gap, Elephant Mountain, and Big Bend Ranch SP are not part of the special draw hunts, so I assume it is legal to take Aoudad there? Are there decent populations in that area?

I understand it is free range hunting, so I'm not wanting a guarantee of taking a trophy ram, but it would be a bummer to spend a week out there and not even see one.

I'm also open to paying reasonable "trespass fees" on private ranches, just not looking for a whole guided trip. Thanks for any input.

You can't hunt Audad on those places with the aph permit. There are very few there anyway. You would have to pay a trespass fee for private land somewhere

See if you can get a weekend booked at the Hackberry Ranch south of Rocks prints. They have some big ones roaming around out there from time to time. All free range. About $200 per day with minimum days and/or hunters but a do it yourself type of hunt.

My party has been going there about 15 years in a row now and we have taken some quality animals.

Thanks for the tip. $200 per day would be fine, I could throw down about $1,000 for a 5 day hunt.

It looks like it is bow hunting only from what I saw on their page. This would be fine from a blind, but I am interested in a spot and stalk hunt which would likely be a rifle deal for me.

Lots of free range Auodad up her off the Caprock. You could probably get a DIY hunt for less than what you want to spend and see a bunch of Auodad. If you want I can get you some contact numbers, just PM me if you want.

It's bow only but there is public land open around Del Rio. It's a tough hunt from what I've heard and read.

Yeah what Bowhuntamistad said, not worth your time and effort on a hunt down in Del Rio ain't no good animals down here best take you hunting else where. !!!!! Just teasing you.!!!! only option for cheap Aoudad down here is to get to them by boat and with a bow only and chances are slim to none.!!!!!!!!
