My son and I went on a hunt in January in Uvalde, TX. It was on private land, with an MLD Permit. We were allowed to bait the feeders that all dispensed deer corn. We used fresh apples and the deer weren't even remotely interested. We cut up several fresh apples, and stomped on the cut apple slices to make sure the apple smell was in the air. The hunting guide told us the most effective bait, in his experience was either Alfalfa or Chaffhaye. One hunter in our group used fresh Alfalfa hay and was successful in getting an Axis doe to get close enough to him that he killed it with his bow.
Regards,
Dave

We throw out fruit and veggies for the deer a lot. In fact my dad, goes to the local food bank and gets out of date items. One time he brought a whole pallet of cabbage to the ranch. We set the pallet out and within one week, it was gone...not a trace that cabbage ever existed. And we don't have hogs.
