    Apples for deer.

Has anyone thrown down apples or feed apples to deer? Last year I threw down a few bags and they got eatin up but think it was the hogs.

Deer will tear it up I do this every year. I'll rub surrounding trees with it for scent they come right to it. I'll poke a hole in apple and hang it up on branches to give me a nice shot while they reach up for the apple. Good stuff

My son and I went on a hunt in January in Uvalde, TX. It was on private land, with an MLD Permit. We were allowed to bait the feeders that all dispensed deer corn. We used fresh apples and the deer weren't even remotely interested. We cut up several fresh apples, and stomped on the cut apple slices to make sure the apple smell was in the air. The hunting guide told us the most effective bait, in his experience was either Alfalfa or Chaffhaye. One hunter in our group used fresh Alfalfa hay and was successful in getting an Axis doe to get close enough to him that he killed it with his bow.

        Regards,

        Dave

            Apples and peaches.
When our fruit gets old, I toss them to the neighborhood does that I feed in the back yard.
They eat them soon as they hit the ground.

We throw out fruit and veggies for the deer a lot. In fact my dad, goes to the local food bank and gets out of date items. One time he brought a whole pallet of cabbage to the ranch. We set the pallet out and within one week, it was gone...not a trace that cabbage ever existed. And we don't have hogs.

I wouldn't go near Maine if you paid me. Been through Bangor a few times but not by choice.

We throw out all kinds of fruits and veggies at the house and the neighborhood deer are on it like a fat kid on a Chinese buffet!

Hunted a buddy's place out of Leakey and the "canyon" I liked to hunt had a small draw in it that had wild plum trees in it. The whitetail, axis, fallow, and Sika that wandered that ranch loved loved loved those plums. It were the death of many of them

I feed all our leftover apples, pears, peaches, etc. (The wife always buys way too many) to the deer. I also have a big orchard and all the the bug/rotten fruit goes to the deer feeders. It all gets eaten. I'm hip deep in deer. A good thing.
