    Feeder funnel?

What is the purpose of a funnel inside of a feeder? I can see where it would allow all of the corn to be fed instead of leaving 20 lbs or so in the barrel but if you never let it run completely out what other purpose does it have?

None, plus will hold less corn with funnel.

    God Bless

That's the only purpose I'd think. For us slack arses.

I like to think that it helps the corn gravitate towards the down spout as well. Not 100% sure it actually does, but it makes me feel better.

All mine have a one. I have seen moisture build up in the area that never moves (bottom). Clumping takes place. Problems compound. I guess it depends on where you hunt. But considering what I spend on all the other areas of hunting, why go cheap here. Its 30 bucks and lasts 20 years plus....

If you don't have a funnel the corn that is trapped in the corner will always be there.

More consistent flow of corn to the scatter plate plus keeps the barrel cleaner.

I have a mixture of both.

When the feeder runs empty on a barrel without a funnel and the heel of corn sits for a while, the corn weebles will magically be there too.

Then you have to dump the barrel to get them all out.

In high humid areas with a sealed tight lid the heel will clump up into a fermented mash.

Lids that cover but not seal (slide on) will prevent this from happening for the most part due to allowing the moisture to escape out the roof of the drum.

Weevils eat the corn sitting on the bottom that never makes it to hole and never moves, making a nasty, powdery mess.

Nope--my feeders get dumped upside down once or twice per year and I hammer on the bottom to get all the trash out of them.

                      No funnel needed IMO.

Me and Burnadell have had this discussion for years. Can't say that we ever resolved it.

It helps get ALL the corn out of the feeder so you practically eliminate the possibility of having nasty sour corn in the edges of your feeder.
