If you could only have one

Okay everyone, Since my gear was recently stolen and I will hopefully be purchasing a new bow soon help me out. Since I am not one to run out and buy the latest and greatest every time there is something new ( wish I could afford to ) I try to buy the best gear I can afford at the time.

If you had to buy a new bow thinking you would have to keep it for at least 5+ years what would you buy and why?

    Help me out

    Jerry

I too am in the market for a back up bow right now.....I am shooting the Bowtech commander and really like it a lot...(more than any other bow I have ever shot)....I am looking for a shorter ATA bow this time, so I am looking at the bowtech Captain&Admiral.....Also I set up a PSE x-force ss for a friend of mine a couple months ago and it was just as quiet as the commander, just as dead in the hand and put up some impressive numbers on the chrono with a heavy arrow.....So, it's between the three of them bows for me...Good luck!!!

Depends on what you like. Short or long ATA. Short or long brace height? Speed, or dead and quiet?

I just got a new Elite GT500. I shoot a 466 grain arrow. Same pin out to 30 yards. Lots of KE and pretty dead and quiet. Not the fastest out there, but I like shooting heavy arrows so I can bust some bone.

              Mesquite Archery

Go see Scott at Mesquite. He has some closeouts from Diamond that are a pretty good deal. He also has just about every other Bowtech and Mathews in stock so you can check those out as well.

jjbuilder you have asked a question with a lot of answers so I'll give you mine.I just recently purchased a Drenalin Mathews.Being an owner of several Mathews bows they all are sweet shootin bows, however the Drenalin is the sweetest. Now getting to the meat of the matter, in my opinion accuracy and stealthiness are paramount over speed. The Drenalin is afairly fast bow, accurate and stealthy. I've killed 2 deer this season and neither one heard the bow when the shot went off, the furtherest being 33yds. So what is it that you want? Speed Accuracy Steath....you get all 3 with Mathews.

I know there are alot of good if not great bows on the market right now. Just about all the bows out there are considered to be quiet compared to just a few years ago. I am not necessarily looking for the fastest bow out there but I would like some speed. I am just interested in a great all around bow that I won't be looking to replace anytime soon. I know that it is to each his own, But if you HAD to choose one and keep it long term what would YOU buy. Just trying to narrow down my choices. I don't care what brand name is on it.

Elite is my choice, too. I am shooting a 500 grain arrow out of an Elite GTO and it is a cannon. I like it so much I pushed my Switchback to my backup bow..

This sounds like a wise thing to do. You might also see some DXTs and the likes show up in the classifieds when people like me decide they have to have the new offering since it's faster - etc.

I’ve found my "PERFECT" hunting bow in the Mathews Prestige, but the I’m not a fan of parallel limbs and extremely short bows. The Prestige at 35 ½” is as short as I’m willing to go…
I suggest you go to one of the larger shops in your area and spend the day shooting as many bows in your draw length as you can before deciding. There are few “bad” bows made today and all have their idiosyncrasies. Finding what you like is the trick…
One word of advice is to be careful on the draw length, the ATA/AMO allows a ½” leeway for measuring and many companies take advantage of this in order to be able to advertise a higher IBO speed. Others do not follow this route and so a 29” draw can easily be 29 ½” ….

i have shot the bowtech admiral, swat, captian, hoyt alphamax 32, elite z28, gt500, and the elite xlr and that z28 is really fast (320+), dead quiet, and shock free. if i were buying right now i would definately get the elite z28.
