Two months ago:
Wife: you have a big birthday coming up on August 5th (60!
) what would like for your present?
Me: as a matter of fact, I have been thinking about buying a new shotgun - how bout' we make that my present?
Wife: not that it matters but just out of curiosity, how many shotguns do you already have?
Me: well uh, more than several I guess but the boys like to shoot my trusty old Red Label so I end up shooting whatever I can find in the back of the safe, so I...
Wife: OK, you know how my eyes glaze over when you start talking guns. Just indulge me and whatever you get, let me wrap it and give it to you on your birthday.(this woman loves birthdays!)
So. I knew wanted another 20 gauge and had narrowed it down to a Browning 725 or a Beretta Silver Pigeon. Luckily I had the opportunity to shoot both at a friend's ranch where a bunch of guys had gathered to play Wolfchase, drink beer and tell lies. I had heard that it is rare that both Brownings and Berettas "fit" the same shooter-it's one or the other. That was certainly the case with me. I loved the looks of the Browning but I shot the SP much better. After going back and forth I bought the Beretta in 20gauge with 30" barrels. I hope to put a few boxes through it this weekend and I have two charity clay shoots later this month - gotta get dialed-in before September 1st!
