    Anyone hunt around Friedricksburg?

I just got a late invite to get on a lease 13 miles north of Friedricksburg. I know the deer numbers are high all over the hill country, but what I'm really interested in is the exotics in that particular area.

I was kinda worried about getting on something this late, but the lease boss told me that he's got 7 stands a feeders running for 3 hunters (I would be the 4th). It's got a house, electricity, water, and all the amenities. I could set up my own stands, but for this year I think I'd be alright just having a place to hunt. It's 650 acres and would be bow only.

I'll be heading to Comfort just after Thanksgiving to hunt over a friend's feeder, but it'll be my first time. Sounds like you've got a good place. Good luck.

I hunt in Junction, which is another 65 miles west of Fredericksburg, and have also hunted in Fredericksburg. Honestly, I an not aware of any large exotic populations in that area. We have some axis in Junction, but 40 mi's south there are better populations in rocksprings. Fredericksburg is a pretty area, but I wouldn't hold your breathe for exotics. Still sounds like a great place.

Kevin are you hunting off Hwy 16 or 87?

I think it's off 16 ... he said it was straight up towards Llano.

My friends/family there say they've seen both axis and fallow on occasion.

I hunted 12 miles NW of F'Burg for 3 years in a row. Nothing but solid whitetails...never saw any sort of exotic. This was back in the late 90's so things could of changed since then.

That would be off 16 then near Bell Mountain or Willow City.

Great area for deer, turkey and hogs but have not heard of many places with big exotic populations like they have south towards Comfort/Kerrville.

I think you will love the area.

hunted for years on the same road Luchenback is on. Cant remember the country road but we were only 15 minutes from Fredricksburg and we saw quite a few axis. Just depends on the area I guess and how many have gotten loose. this was a few years ago.

Cull, you've pretty much confirmed what I was told ... he said there's lots of deer, plenty hogs and a bunch of turkeys. I'm thinking between this place and my day hunts for exotics, I could be pretty busy!

There are some places out there have some really nice deer and the area is beautiful.

My dad's lease (I hunt there occasionally) is on Hwy 16 about 8 miles from Kerrrville towards Fredericksburg. High whitetail population, some turkey, some predators (mainly foxes). He's bowhunted there for 46 years, it has always been a "target rich" environment. I took a doe there early in October.

Oh, if there are any creeks running thru the property, they're likely full of bluegill, goggle-eye, and largemouth bass very eager to hit anything thrown at them.

My GF's ranch is 13 miles north of F. on 16. 700 acres low fenced but no sings of axis. Have been seeing Audads though. Jason Slocum

That is something I forgot to mention Kevin. There are Auodad in the area. Jeff shot his big one out there.
