    Question about shipping guns

    I need to send a rifle to a gunsmith in Oregon, do i need to send thru an FFL, also, is the law the same for in state mailing of firearms?

      I believe a gunsmith would also be an FFL.

        Gunsmith is probably ffl but if not then yes you do. Its not state law as much as it is federal law. Any gun being shipped out of state needs to go through an FFL. Within state at least in Texas you can ship long guns directly but handguns need to go through FFL.

            This is close but not 100% accurate. You can ship a gun to yourself out of state "in care of" a designated recipient. However, that recipient may not open the package, they can only hold it for you. Obviously not applicable to the OP in this situation but it is possible to legally ship a firearm out of state, to yourself, without using an FFL.
