How long waiting on a Ground Stand?

Last year i placed a ground stand about 50 yards from a feeder in West Texas. ALL morning long the deer circled me and grunted. I never got a shot. I ended up hunting under a tree for the next 4 weeks all camoed out. I shot 5 deer, so it worked.

But I was wondering.... how long do you leave a ground blind up before the deer get used to it? Days, Weeks, or Months?

I am sure someone will have a success story putting it up and hunting the same day... but I wonder how many other deer they never saw... because deer were spooked

Also, how long can a $100 blind last in the weather? Do they make it through a full season of wind, rain, and ice?

    Thoughts?

Don't know about where you live but I left one out in the mountains up here for 6 months and it was fine

Do the window stay closed??? In my experience the deer seem to be a lot more afraid of the black holes than the blind itself. I have seen deer pay no attention to a ground blind until the windows were opened and it created a black hole then they would steer a wide berth with or without a hunter inside.

As far as the weather I think the greatest enemy is U.V. light.

i've had success after a few days of letting it sit... it just depends on how hard your deer herd is hunted IMO...

I second the comment about deer being leary of black holes..

When darting does (same range as bow hunting...25 yards is a long shot) Several times I have literally set up a pop up by a feeder without brushing it in, climbed in, and darted a doe 15 minutes later after the feeder went off.

Give it a few days minimum.

My $75 ground blind I bought two years ago.

It is beat up and has two or 3 small tears and it has faded but it still works.

Looks like next year I will be buying another $75 to $100 ground blind.

In Granger I had deer coming to the ground blind the next day.

Depends on the the deer. I have had deer within hours other times a few days. Usually it doesn't take them that long to get use to it.

Sounds like those deer winded you. Once one deer blows at you they will stay clear but remain curious. They will keep going back and forth wind checking you so they can pin point your location. I've actually blew back at them and had they step out to see the new deer they heard and I got a shot. The longer you wait the more they will keep scenting you till they leave convinced. Brush your blind in good and most important hunt the right wind. Last...leave your door unzipped so you dont have to zipp it when you get in. Make no noise when you come in to hunt.

I have put mine up the night before and took a deer the next morning. I think it all depends on the deer.

I have video of a large 8 watching me from about 60 yards. He is stomping and snorting. I'll rip it and upload it soon. I hunted in the same clothes later that day (without the blind) and killed two deer. I dont "think" they smelled me... but I guess they could have.

They might have smelled your blind!!!! I always let my blind air out a few days prior to season and spray it down good then store it in a the woods where I plan on hunting, if I need to move it, no problem it already smells like it's surroundings....I know the DB's will hold some scent b/c of the material they are made of, I leave mine in the barn in the off season and it always stinks when I get it out.....Maybe thats what the deer were smelling??? I usually leave mine out all season and have been doing this for 3 years now and it is fine, stands up to the weather well.

ding ding winner in my book. windows are the biggest problem why i like shoot through screens.

I've put mine up left it the morning hunt then hunted the afternoon and had deer covering me up.
