The end of that video would have been met with a flip flop if it were me.

Saw one hauling off it's prey yesterday. Pretty cool...

They don't kill cicadas, the female ground hornet paralyze the cicadas, drag them into their burrow and lay an egg. When the egg hatches the larva eats the cicada.

Only the female can sting and it's very rare. The males guard the nest, and can't sting.

Very true! Where I live we have tons of these, and I have never once been stung (and trust me I deserve it). Only the females can sting but they rarely do!

We have them in our back yard and see them all the time. Occasionally we can hear the cicadas screaming and we know exactly what has happened. They are quick little boogers but have never posed a threat to us.

They are very docile. The male cannot sting at all and the female will only sting if strongly provoked. I have held them in my hand before.

Can of hair spray and a bic lighter will take care of it.
I have about 20 or 30 buzzing my backyard all day. Never been stung but they do annoy me and insects that annoy me usually end up dead.

Cool video, never seen one in action. I like the power assist on the climb up the tree!

                        That's awesome footage!

Thank God those things don't grow to be 100lbs, or we would all be in trouble
