Front Page news Fox.com Yamaha Rhino

Looks like the Rhino is now front page news. I cannot figure out why they are singling out the rhino, it looks and is built similar to all other SXS vehicles. Shows how a some people and lawyers will try to make a buck anyway they can.

My guess: Yamaha has deeper pockets than the other makers.

Years ago they did this with 3 & 4 wheelers as well.

The Rhino is narrower than others and rolls easier. That makes it an easy target for lawyers. Kind of like the Samurai years back

yea, remember all the 3 wheeler bashing years back. dad i wrecked them in about every way you can imagine, including running one through a barb wire fence. funny thing is THEY WERE ALL MY FAULT! i was driving it, if you operate anything in a manner it was not created to be operated in YOU CAN GET HURT!! thats the problem with our society, it is always somone elses fault.

It was the first performance type out so being longer on the market it has had more misuse than the others.

Many injury claims, the company said, stem from improper operation, modifications such as removing the protective "roll cage," or failure to use a helmet and seat belt. "
              LOL

I have never seen ANYONE wear a helmet in a UTV.

Early on, there were lots of horrific leg injuries when drivers instinctively put their foot out when it started tipping - not a good idea with a vehicle that weighs something like 1,000 pounds. They now all come with doors so you can't do that. Yamaha has made some safety upgrades in recent models, but the lawyers just use those upgrades as proof that the earlier ones were unsafe. I think this will end up costing Yamaha a bundle and the Rhino could very well go the way of the 3 wheeler. Liability risk will just become too great

The first time I rode in one my buddy was driving and he is kind of wild. As soon as I got into it I said, " You better not flip this thing"... Five minutes later he flipped it onto my side. I was not happy. Luckily we where ok. Now I know it was not his fault because Yamaha made the product. HAHAHA

That great ground clearance and narrow frame has safety trade-offs. For example, the biggest knock on Mules is their low ground clearance. I talked to a guy who did some consulting for Kawasaki and he said the company made the decision to keep the ground clearance low, knowing it would cost them in sales but they figured that would be more than offset by not getting sued by making them to high and "tippy". Looks like a smart move now...
