I'll shoot sows first. Mainly because those smart sows have blown many a hunt for me so taking them out first seems more logical in that respect. I don't think shooting a couple three hogs out of a group does anything to "control hogs" but it sure is fun to try!
Our landowner used to tell us--"shoot the big sows first, but don't let the rest of 'em get away."
My personal tactic is to shoot the sows, and attempt to line 'em up for multiple kills. If I'm in one of my bow stands, I often take my 12-ga along with my bow. If a solitary pig shows up, it catches an arrow, if a sounder shows up, I break out the 12-ga w/3" magnum #4 buckshot.
The sounder will almost certainly have some young boars in them so taking out the dominant boar just gives the young ones a chance to move up the pecking order sooner. Shooting the sow at least slows the breeding process down.
I have no clue, but seems logical to me to shoot the boars that are big enough to breed first. If not available, I'd then pick out a sow that has dropped tits or youngens, if not present at the time I'd switch to the biggest sow of the group. Of course theory behind the boar is that if you have 20 sows and only 6-7 boars big enough to breed, taking 1 of them versus 2 sows, you'd eventually have no boars big enough....but of course you have more pigs growing fast to take their place. Correct me if I'm wrong, I have no real experience with trying to control or terminate a group of pigs. Only shoot them for meet and fun.

Reason: Cuz I'm dum
Part 2 ? Trap and cut the cahonnes of the boar hogs and whack the sows.
Eventually your game animal will become non bearing, delectable eating when you want, Barr hog that will only eat, produce no offspring and lack testosterone.
