    Polar Bear Tubes

Anyone on the Green Screen ever make their own Polar Bear Tubes? Looks like a good idea. They are using straight water but I wonder if adding rubbing alcohol might make it colder.

Looks like you could do any size you want remembering the size of your freezer of course.

    Thoughts?

    Great concept

I use old half gallon and gallon jugs and put them in the freezer.

Me to but I cut um open to use as block ice on my Quartered Deer. These would be like Ice Packs that you refreeze. Nice idea.

Please don't let Smart see this thread. No telling what modifications and ideas he'd be posting.

I like that concept. I'm just curious how cold they'll actually get, because of the thickness of pvc.

my first thought is they will get as cold as the freezer you put them in probably around 0 degrees F. How well they transfer that temperature to the cooler and food/beverages is a another question. They have a cool loo, but I think the re-used beverage containers makes the most practical sense.

I used 2" pvc, capped one end and filled with water leaving about 3" from the top the glued and capped the other end. I cut them to the length of my yeti 55. 3 of them fit in the bottom perfectly and extends the life of the ice in the cooler. I made 6 of them so I can switch them out when needed. It's def worth the few dollars it cost to make em and they don't take up much room.

Interesting...I have always used various sizes of screw-lid plastic bottles as well but I like that these can fit in the bottom of a cooler.

Has anyone ever tried mixing salt in their water jugs, to lower the freezing point. Hence making the ice colder and last longer? I wonder if that will work better with this idea.

never tried it in bottles, but I have used rock salt and ice. only issue was the drinks in the cooler froze. Id bet a good brine solution in those PVC pipes would work great and the PVC would limit the heat transfer keeping the drinks from freezing.

I like this idea. I wonder could you put salt, rubbing alcohol, and water all together to make a solution?
