Anybody watch the Tiny House shows on the DIY channel

I find it very interesting and have good ideas. I could never live in one but in the near future I may be building a "Mobil hunting cabin". I built my last camper and it is a tank, but need much more room with another kid and wife that wants to go now. The way they build these I don't see how they stay together pulling them down the road.

I like the show. Couldn't live in one full time but would be fun to summer in one up and down the west coast and mountains.

Neat ideas for sure. I looked into one for the coast. I was surprised at how many rules and regulations there are against having one. Kinda sad but many places won't allow them.

I know a girl at one of my customers sites that just had one built in Georgetown. She is putting it in San Leon and is so excited. LOl. Her husband is a high school basketball coach and she said he was about 6'3 and is very excited. Yeah Right! HAppy wife happy life.

They move in very soon and I asked to be invited to the house warming party. I told her I would bring a miniature cactus in a pot that has a magnet for the fridge. LOL!

My wife and I watch it regularly.

Some of those people are nuts, spending $125k+ on 700 sq ft....

Most of the cities they live in a small house is $350k, so I assume their saving a little...

On another hand, why not just spend $60-$70k on a nice camper...

Edit: AND!!!! Most of the people don't have land to park them on, so their spending around $1000 a month for .5 acres. CRAZY!

My brother has built a few. He actually lives in one now while he works on a little larger 900 SF one. He cuts his own logs and mills everything for the project. Barters for the electrical, hvac etc.

We just built one for our ranch hand. 480 sq. ft with foam insulation, mini split ac/heat pump. It's crazy efficient!

watch it a lot, funny how so many want to have their own place, bills free, then park it on mom and dads place or a friends.....

We've watched a few episodes, and had intentions of building something very similar. Once I started designing the layout the size started to increase and we ended up slightly larger than most of those.

They will continue to get more popular IMO as long as taxes keep rising. I want to get one so I can avoid 3-4k in property tax each year.

I saw one where they paid 70k for one to be built. As I see it and maybe I'm wrong but you pay on a 70K tiny house for 5-10 years then decide you want a regular house you try and sell and you get about 20k for it. Buy a 70-100k regular house and typically you have some good equity in it by then. Seems like a huge waste of money
