My dad has a gate at the front of his place. He used to have a solar powered opener on it, but had a hard time getting it to work properly. He abandoned ship on it many years ago. Well now, the gate has moved a hair but all the old components are still in place, or most of them. The arm and box are for sure. How hard would it be to buy new internals, and get it working? I was going to open it yesterday when I was there, but 15 wasp on the outside of the box alone deterred me. Looks like a great winter project and Christmas gift to me.

What brand is it? I am sure you can still find parts/pieces for it. If it is a Mighty Mule, you may not want to fool with it. I have had a mighty mule on my gate for 10 years now and it is not very reliable. Seems I am always having to mess with something on it to keep it working. -
Sounds like a Mighty Mule. I'd just start over with an upgrade of that's the case.Comment
