    Lasik Procedure

So with the sponsor from the Lasik clinic starting the thread... I just wanted to shine the light on my Lasik experience for anyone interested in how everything worked. I am sure at every office there might be one or two things that they do different but for the most part they are all the same when it comes to the procedure part of it!

    So here it goes!

So when you first get there you sign the final papers and they double make sure you are not allergic to anything, then proceed to give you a valium for pain and some antibiotic eye drops.

After about 5 minutes the nurse came back and gave me more drops.

About another 5-10 minutes later I can start to feel the valium doing its work and also about that time the Doctor comes in, I am pretty sure they have this whole thing timed.

first they sit you in a chair that is laid back. Then the real fun starts!
    1. They put a suction cup device on the right eye to get the eye centered. This I would have to say was the most uncomfortable part of the whole surgery for the suction cup device is put under you eye lids and seals your eye ball in one position.

    2. They then move the chair under the machine on the left and it presses down on the suction device and started to make the cuts for the flap.

    3. Then they take the suction cup off and repeat the process on the left eye.

4.Now that my lenses are cut they move me under the second machine that is the laser that corrects your vision!

    5. They tape the eye lids up and down so you cannot blink and moves the flap down.

    6. Then they get the machine centered and let it do its thing. It sounded like hammers beating on a hollow metal drum.

    7. Once the Machine is done correcting my vision (which took all of 33 second!) he puts a drop of some kind of solution and reapplies the flap!

    8. The Doctor uses little brushes to get all the bubbles out just like you would if you were applying vinyl or tint to your car.

    9. Then a another drop of the antibacterial stuff and he rips away the tape promising me I will still have eye lashes and eyebrows lol.

    10. Then he just repeats the same thing for the other eye.

Nothing was very painful during the whole thing but just mostly uncomfortable. It was very strange though because you are awake for the whole thing watching the laser and the doctor use his tools on your eyes!

Yep. Bout the same when I did it 20 years ago. They said "you'll go blind for a second, but don't panic" haha. Painless. Woke up the next morning and could see the digital clock across the room. It was a cool feeling.
Starting to need readers now though.

Thanks for the info. I've been considering it for a while. I just haven't gotten around to it. I see you are in Arlington. Did you have it done around DFW? And if you don't mind what did you pay? Pm me if you would like.

Got mine done about 5 months ago. One of the best decisions I have ever made.

My vision will occasionally fluctuate, but I was told this could happen for up to a year. After my 3 month follow up, I was 20/15 in my left and 20/20 in my right, and 20/12 with both eyes open.

I was 20/15 with both eyes the next day and now two weeks later I am 20/10 with both eyes.

Sorry your procedure was uncomfortable! We typically don't have any complaints of that at our facility. In fact, a couple years ago before we started sponsoring, there were several TBHers that had the procedure with us that raved about it on the threads. You shouldn't have any pain during the procedure. The suction device does feel a bit strange though haha, but shouldn't hurt. We use a wholeeeeeee bunch of numbing drops before, during and after. It's so dang fast, 8 seconds then 10 seconds and you're donezo. Let me know if anyone has any questions ahassen@manneye.com

Yes non of it was painful just uncomfortable when the laser machine presses down to make the cut. other than that it is just weird being awake for everything!

I was in and out of the office in 25 minutes for my procedure from walking in and walking out. It took 33 seconds an eye to make the corrections.

Well let's see.... Had to have PRK instead, did it from a stupidly high dollar and reputable place. Felt like shards of glass in my eye for 3 days. Healed quicker than they expected and was driving by day 4. Severe halos for months, lost a lot of night time depth perception, and can no longer look at blue lights like gas station signs and the stove clock without getting a headache. I guess it was worth it, but I did it for the headaches that glasses gave me, only to get headaches from other things caused by the procedure. Everyone is different, which is why they make you sign that waiver if it doesn't work.

Had mine done about 5 years ago now and it was definitely the best medical decision I've ever made and it had a huge impact on my quality of life. The valium was optional and I found no reason to take it at the time so I passed on the pills. Surgery was super fast and painless with just some minor discomfort. You can actually smell your eye burning too, somewhat humorous once you know to expect it. Took a short nap when I got home and when I awoke I could see. A couple years after my Lasik I stabbed myself in the eye with a stick and had to have a more invasive surgery, that was MISERABLE so don't poke yourself in the eye after!

Mine were done in a hospital and I was put under. They did the second eye at a different time. No pain, no issues!
