    Pet question.

My brother got his daughter a cat and it broke its leg up in the shoulder area looks to me like because it's leg is just dangling there. There's no veterinarian open this time of night so we're trying to figure out what to do in the meanwhile. We talked to a few people and someone who has had more experience with them than us said they had a cat that broke its leg and the vet just wrapped it up. So what do we do? Can we wrap it up in some way so it'll be better off for now? I don't know anything about cats. I've never really had one that stayed inside and that I saw every day so I have no idea.

I guess if its shoulder is broke I worded that wrong. Its leg ain't in use but I don't think its broken. It doesn't seem like its in pain but it can't be feeling all that great.

Is it dislocated? We had a basset hound whose shoulder popped out of socket periodically. I got pretty good at putting it back in. Not sure I'd try that on a cat, but the description sounds like what our basset looked like.

put in a box to go to sleep until you can take it to a vet. doesn't seem like theres much else to do. if you put it in a crate it'll most likely lay down and stay off of it.

I said the same thing but I don't think it is dislocated. It seems like the bone is broken up in its shoulder. You can feel it move around.

That's what I think we're gonna do. Plus my niece is a baby so she doesn't know what an animal being hurt means. So it's probably best just to leave it cooped up for now. If we try to make a little sling for this cat like we planned my brother is gonna get bit and clawed. I can just tell by the way this thing is acting. It wants to be left alone.

Is there any medicine recommended for cats to help with the pain at least? We couldn't find any info except don't give them Tylenol.

Well I guess the vet said there was nothing they could do except let it heal on its own.

My wife's cat broke its leg up close to the shoulder. It got surgery. Pins and plates. It was $1500. I hate that cat.

They said they'll do a check up on it in a month. If it's not better they may have to amputate its leg. I haven't asked my brother about it but I bet he's not happy about it. I'm just guessing he's probably not. He wouldn't tell his wife this but I know him good enough that he'd rather shoot the cat and get a new one rather than doctor it up. I guarantee you he's mad because everything the vet told his wife he already told her.

Did they take X-rays? Depending on where and how it's broke can determine course of action....

I don't think they did. I could feel where it was broke. It wasn't quite in the shoulder but high up on its leg. Its leg just dangled there when you'd pick it up so I figured it was really, really bad. I honestly figured they might have to amputate its leg.
