    East Texas post-rut help.

I've hunted our family property in houston county my whole life. I've always killed a buck prior to thanksgiving, but some years I didnt and after thanksgiving I have never seen a buck worth shooting. My land consists of 300 acres with a 1000yrd gas pipeline cutting it in half. I have a major perennial creek with several drainages that runs along side the pipeline. Right now I've been seeing most of my deer at a major creek crossing, but I'm curious as to where would be the best spot to set up after the rut. I usually dont hunt after thanksgiving but since we lost our duck hunting location i'll probably be deer hunting more if I dont kill one in the next couple weeks. Any advice would be welcomed

Hunt where you would during the rut, but around the first or second week of December, when the secondary rut comes in.

According to the TPWD, the peak of this year's rut in the Norther part of East Tx. will be around 11/21. That said, I'd hunt where you normally do for the big one's. I live/hunt out by Lake Sam Rayburn (Northwest of Jasper) and normally kill a buck Thanksgiving week end. Rattling normally works very well at this time and bucks are still looking for "Hot" does. I believe a "preliminary" rut begins in Oct. but the primary/peak rut is the mid/latter part of Nov.

      Good luck.

I would go to the thickest most un used portion of your land and look there.
