Fishing Corpus Christi ?

Going to pickup my son from camp in south Texas next week. He really wants to salt water fish.. Not really looking for a guide just want to fish the beach or bay. Never been in that area before so just seeing if anyone has a good spot they know of. Also what's the best bait, we are just going to be catching and releasing. Thanks

Wading the flats off of packery channel is usually a good bet. Popping cork and live shrimp.

May be able to catch some black drum if you go to the Packary channel, across the bridge from snoopys pier. Dead shrimp under a popping cork normally does the trick for me. Since your just catching and releasing your boy may have fun catching hard heads! Still may be early for the big drum run. Remeber to wash off all your gear with fresh water after using it, even if you don't think you got much salt on it. Itl ruin a reel very quick

When the wind is howling I don't care to fish there. If it's light throw live shrimp with a popping cork or red n white plastics. With the full moon fish under the light with plastics might be ok too.

Everybody was catching nice Black Drum on Saturday, from the bank, kayak and boats.
Packery channel, along the "S" curve part.
It was easy, dead shrimp and toss it out.
We caught 18 in an hour.

They pull hard, your boy would like it.
