    VW Passat A/C Issues

Well, almost 50K miles and the A/C crapped out on my wife's 2014 Passat. It was an intermittent problem with the system not cooling, but it gradually got worse. Called the dealer and they cant get her in until Monday. I was poking around in it and noticed that it looked like the compressor was spinning, and it never clicked off. I don't have actual gauges other than one of those quick fix things you buy at walmart, but it was showing the pressure to be maxed out on the low side. Neither hoses were cold and no condensation anywhere. Dies this sound like the compressor has taken a dump, or could there be another problem?

My wife's 2005 Jetta TDI is doing the same thing. On YouTube there is a video about a fuse under the hood that may be the culprit. Look it up. I think I will try that this weekend.

Already chased down the fuses. Clutch is constantly engaged. If the fuse was dead the clutch wouldn't kick in.

That compressor spins at all times on that car, there is a internal valve called N280 valve that opens and closes to regulate system pressures and these compressors are junk.
Put a set of gauges on it if youu can find some, and check power and ground at the electronic N280 valve on the compressor
Bet you are going to buy a compressor, dont know anyone that makes the N280 valve by its self yet

The valve on these goes bad and the compressor will need to be replaced. Its about $950 to replace at VW.

We sold our 2014 Passat diesel after AV problems while under warranty great mileage and car except for the ac. Dealer in SA had it for a total of 3 months off and on the longest stretch was 6 weeks. Then they had some dude from the vw ha come the replaced compressor dryer the rat on a wheel and nothing will never buy another vw again

The fuse won't be actually blown, just fits loose in the slot its in. Causing the intermittent ac problems.

Well, she took it to the stealership Monday. They replaced a sensor and a fuse (one I apparently could not find) for a total of about $360, and proceeded to tell her that they didn't know what the problem was but could replace the compressor for around $2K and it MIGHT fix the problem. WHT!!! $2K to replace a $250 part, and it MIGHT fix the problem. What a bunch of monkeys! Its a shame that nobody that works on cars now knows how to fix them if the little computer doesn't tell them whats wrong. THey completely lost the art of mechanical diagnostics in favor of replacing parts until it solves the problem. Seems like there should be methods they can use to check specific parts to see if they are actually causing the problem.

If it weren't for the fact that the TDI scandal made the value of the car drop to less than half of what we owe, Ide ditch it in a heartbeat. I miss the days when cars actually had room under the hood and you could actually get to parts and check them to see if they caused the problem.

Father-in-law put gauges on it last night and it was running about 115 psi on both sides. I found a local guy that says he can replace the valve instead of the whole compressor, so I know someone has the valve. IF I can find the valve myself, I will attempt that first.

Well, my FIL was able to track down the part for us. Replaced the valve and recharged the system to 110psi and still not cooling. Couldn't get the fans to come back on after getting it all back together. Fiddled with some of the connections, and they came on after disconnecting and reconnecting the high pressure switch. Its weird. Next step is the compressor because we are at a loss. Could be an electrical issue too, but we have no idea. Any thoughts?

I know your pain, buck saw. I hope you can find a fix. And cheap.

My 2010 Ram AC is taking a dump. Blows ice cold on the passenger side, doesn't blow as hard/cold on the drivers side. Takes about 15 minutes to get the temp to somewhat cool levels of it's been sitting in the sun all day. I'm just going to ride it out as its not a big issue at this point.

There have actually been people with similar issues to yours. Something to do with the condencer being clogged because of no cabin filter. Saw a guy on here the other day who posted his progress while fixing it.

By any chance do you remember the poster or thread name? I've done a quick search on my phone but haven't found it yet.

Ok you replced the valve, use a basic test light or volt meter to verify power and ground to it with the engine running and AC switch on, the fans will not come on until it see's more highside pressure.
If you have power and ground to the N280 valve and the high and low side gauges read the same there is a compressor internal problem,IF you have no power or ground there is a electrical issue to it

All electrical checked out and was testing positive voltage to all connections.

No, sorry. Might try starting your own thread and see who replies.
