    Kuiu Jacket Options

I've been scrolling through threads talking about the pros and cons of higher end camo clothing. For what I'm looking to spend, Kuiu seems to fit my situation best.

My question for you guys who wear their stuff: what jacket should I go with? There are several options out there. Teton and Kenai insulated jackets, the Super Down, and the Guide jacket are the ones I'm looking at. I've got good base layers already. I'm just looking for an all around hunting jacket that is good for tree stands and tripods. Something that cuts the wind well. Any opinions on what my best option would be? Also looking to add some matching pants for a full camo suit.

All depends on the type of hunting you are going to do. IMO Kuiu is the best for mountain style hunting but I was very disappointed in it for deer/stand hunting. I have a very good base layer as well and I still got cold. If you are strictly going to be stand hunting, I would go with the Sitka whitetail series.

Edit: forgot to mention I have all the guide series stuff.

Thanks for the input. I will use it for all my cold weather hunting here in Texas. I'm also going up to Nebraska in November to do a mule deer hunt where we will be in trees as well as doing some walking.

if going with Kuiu I would recommend the Yukon jacket as your outer layer with the superdown jacket underneath. the guide jacket does not offer much warmth and in a hard rain it will wet out, the Yukon jacket is probably the best peace of rain gear made and its durable. I bought both when I was shopping but after several season I wish I would have just bit the bullet and bought the Yukon jacket the first round.

Kenai is probably your best bet for bowhunting because of how quiet it is. Super Down is very fragile, not meant as an outer layer. Yukon/Guide would be good for rifle hunting in weather.

My personal favorite "all in one" jacket at the moment is the Kifaru Lost Parka although the First Lite Uncompaghre is pretty bad *** (used it the last 2 years)

I would pass on kuiu then. You can get better suited gear for less. Been using kuiu for a while now.

None of thier peices have a true wind blocker type laminate. A True wind locker laminate does not breath well, which defeats the mountain type ideology of high activity.

What do you guys think about Kuiu for September elk and November spot and stalk mulies (no tree stands)?

I just got the teton and am very happy with it. I would go one size up from what you are use to wearing. My predator XL jacket fits a little bigger than my Kuiu XL jacket.

Very happy to try it out in Colorado this year for my spot and stalk hunt.

Alpine pants, 145 merino and peloton or 210 merino in your pack for mornings for sept.

And Nov I'd use the 210 merino as your first layer up top with any soft shell.

I would add long underwear under the alpine pants though in November.

Thanks! I was looking at their website last night for a good long while. I'm also thinking about the Teton package for the elk hunt, and could also use that in trees here in Texas I would imagine.

I havent touched Tenton line at all, they are void of some the best features in my mind. I went from the attack pants(4or5) seasons)to the alpine(1 season) and like the alpine a lot better. But I'm a Sept only guy for the most part. Late season at my ranch I hunt with mountain hardware fleece lined stretch pants if it's cold.

A great option price point wise is Prana Zion Stretch pants. They just went to specific waist sizing so you can find great deals on the m, L and XL sizing ones

Why do you like Alpine that much better than Attack? They market Attack as their best all-around pant. Looks like Alpine is a little bit lighter weight than Attack.

Because I mainly hunt Sept. The lighter weight(breathabilty) and knee pads are biggest pluses.

The attack are still great pants Infact I have brown pair that I use to wear as casual pants a bunch. Finally got frayed real bad on the knees, I switched to the Zion pants now... Just as good, cheaper and more fray resistant but they don't have side vents. Side vents is one of my favorite features about kuiu pants though.
