    05 Silverado failed inspection?

My truck failed inspection because the check engine light would not come on when it was turned on. Everything else passed.

Is there an easy way to fix this without replacing the whole cluster? I'm hoping its just a bulb issue and I can find someone to resolder a new one in there. I am about to go on vacation so I hope this isn't too expensive or time consuming to fix.

    Thoughts?

Had one fail because of this, but it was throwing a code I didn't know about. The bulb was burnt out. It was on a Ford though. Pulled cluster and popped another bulb in. No soldering.

Yeah I don't believe that you have to solder them in. just a plug and play. Also might want to check a fuse? but if you had a bad fuse the whole cluster would be off.

It's just the one light that is bad on the cluster. There are burned out LED's on the steering wheel and AC controls. Thanks Chevy for the POS electrics.

I found a few Youtube videos that showed pulling the cluster and replacing the bulbs, so I'm going to give that a shot tonight. It doesn't appear to be too intricate.

          Stay tuned.

wait.. it failed because the check engine light wasn't on.... or because of the code that would have turned it on would cause the inspection to fail?
if you replace the bulb.. and the light comes on...will it still fail because of what the code is ?

id fix what the code is throwing..

When the key is turned on and all the lights on the cluster go through their cycle of turning on/off, the check engine light would not come on. He didn't mention any codes.

I assume it's just a bulb and that it will pass if the light comes on during the startup cycle. That is what the guy inferred.

I called a repair place and they said it was unusual. They wanted $200-ish to pull it and do a full refurb on the cluster, and reinstall. Dealer wants $400+

You gotta be kidding!!! That guy is earning his $7. Take it somewhere else. Out here they don't even look at anything. If you drive it in it passes.
