Who's been camping in Oklahoma State Parks

Wanting to take the family for Labor day to Beaver's Bend, but none of the OK state parks take reservations, it's all first come first serve.

I've been wanting to go for quite some time, but I'd sure hate to go all the way there and them be completely booked up.

Anybody ever camped there and had a problem with getting a site? This goes for all OK state parks.

We've stayed at Stevens gap at beavers bend for the last 7 years now but at the end of July never had any problems but we would stay a week and get there on Sunday afternoon after most weekenders left.

We never had any problems getting sites at Lake Murray.

Since you are going on a holiday weekend I would recommend seeing if you can get up there a couple days early, then just put out a tent on the site you want. You will pay for those days, but you will also have peace of mind that you have your spot. I did that once, then drove up a couple days later with the trailer. Also, there is one campground at Beaver's bend that does take reservations so you may want to try that.

Between the campsites in the park and the campsites around the lake, you will be able to find a nice spot without any problem. The sites in the park will probably fill up on the weekends but if you can go midweek you should be OK unless there is some big festival or whatnot going on.

Beaver's Bend State Park took reservations before when we stayed there, but that was a few year ago.

If it's tent camping then it's should be okay. My buddy and I went up the weekend before the 4th and without reservations we were able to get a good spot. There were people who went out and bought pup tents and reservations for weeks to reserve their spots though. Shouldn't have that problem seeing as that has past. I would avoid the park in which the marina is in if you don't like crowds. That place is a zoo. We stayed in the park directly next to it and it's was very quite and peaceful, also with a boat ramp.

I've never seen the tent camping completely full, although I'm sure it happens. If it's trailer camping, as mentioned one of the camping loops does take reservations, the other areas are first come, first serve. We always book in the reservations loop because we really like the spot and I'm not pulling a trailer 3 hours on the hope of finding an open spot. I've never been there when there was an open spot in the first come, first serve sections.

Do they not take reservations at all. Texas state parks don't take reservations for specific sites but do guarantee you a spot

Consider camping at Pine Creek lake (west side is better). It's about 30 miles west of Beaver's Bend and a beautiful place to camp. They have water and electric hookups and nice restrooms with showers. We camp there every year when we canoe southeast Oklahoma.

So as it turns out there is one area that takes reservations. Unfortunately the weekend we want to go is completely booked. I'll check out Pine Creek lake.

                      Thanks everyone.
