Anyone ever hunt near Clayton, NM?

I just got access to 9k acres with antelope tags and also I can get mule deer tags if I want to OTC being its private land. I'm pumped beyond belief and just curious what the hunting is like. Ranch had never been hunted.

My ranch is east of there one state over. Lots of goats, mulies, few whitetails and even some elk.

    Buy some good glass.

Used to hunt prairie dogs there before the plague wiped them out. Saw a lot of antelope but few Mulies.

Have hunted Antelope on the Prairie Lands West of Clayton near DesMoines.....Took one of my best antelopes there while hiding behind Lava Rock. Have seen a few Mule Deer in the same area and have taken a Cow Elk north of there in the mountains many years ago. Lots of very good antelope in the area.

We hunted open prairies for the dogs so we were not in canyons or any of the brush country.

That's great news that WE get to go after some mulies.

Congrats some good hunting up there

Very large antelope in that region. They are able to be hunted over water with a bow. Pop up blinds work great on them. They are curious and will come close to check them out. Pop ups are crazy hot during early season. I've set many hours in shorts hovering over a fan.

That area holds some big ones and wouldn't be suprised if you didn't have a few 330+ elk wonder through.

You probably might see a few whitetails also depending where the ranch is at.

Been years but when I had Hunter's Paradise in Lubbock we did several guided goat hunts there. One thing I can tell you, better follow ALL NM hunting regulations or you will be very sorry! Lot's of goat's when we hunted there.

Congrats on getting access. I've wanted to hunt that general area for a good while, but haven't had the opportunity to. Seen some pretty nice antelopes at times while I was in the area.
