    Mechanic question

I have a 2005 tundra 4.7with 75000 miles. Low miles because I also have a company truck I drive week days.
My tundra is always under the cover so it's basically like new. Being its 11 years old I'm wondering if I should get the timing belt replaced? It's not due milage wise but it's seems like in 11 years it might be time. But the again with so few miles is it still ok?
    Any thoughts?

That is an interference engine meaning if the timing belt were to break, you would be looking at a repair bill of around $5k to pull the heads and replace the valves.

So yeah, due to the age I would go ahead and replace the belt, water pump, and tensioner.

if you want to ... but I would wait until it has between 100k-120k on the odometer .

I did mine at 155k (2006 Tundra with vvti), cost about 400 for everything but I did it myself. This is my 3rd tundra with the 4.7 so I know the engine well. The first 2 went 200k before I sold them but I didnt change anything. I plan to keep this one so I gave it a buncha maintenance love a few months ago.

I would change it if you plan to keep it. You cant see or feel whats going on under the covers. Mine had a small leak.

Looked pretty good from what I remember but had some wear. It was the original and I felt it was cheap insurance and I had the time to do it. Im keeping this truck for a while so I knew it needed to be done. Got a ton of quotes from dealer to independent shops, get ready to open up your wallet some were as high as $1800

The kits are cheap on Ebay and Rock auto, Id stick with Aisin which is factory and stay away from Gates or any others that Oriely tries to sell you. Also make sure the coolant is Toyota Red ONLY. I did the whole kid like this one here.

The truck does run better with the new tighter belt though. I also believe the schedule is 90k miles or 5 maybe 7 years.
