When 99 hits 59, go north about a mile and hit University south to Hwy 6. This will avoid a lot of traffic and lights on Hwy 6 through Sugar Land.

We made it in right at 6 hours. Left at 6 this morning. We too bypass 8 around town and it was a straight shot from there. There were two huge delays on 45 that we drove around. Also, crossing over the ship channel was crazy, that bridge is a beast.

            Roll through after 8:30 p.m. ------- to before 5 a.m. About 3:00 a.m. is your sweet spot.

Also check the Houston Transstar app.

I drive that 45 route in and out of galveston every week.

I promise these routes are needless added time. Time it right and roll right down the middle, even with traffic its going to be faster.

Minus rush hour so instead of finding and alternate route just travel at times outside of rush hour.

And agree 1000% down to galvez isn't the major traffic issue, back out of galvez to dallas (just galvez to houston) is the worst part of the whole thing which amounts to about a 20 minute delay.

again my only caveat is not during rush hours.

This is a trick question with no good answer.

Good deal, glad you made it safely and kept your sanity! And yeah, that BW8 bridge is a tall one with narrow lanes!

Could jump on 105 through Cleveland when you hit Conroe. Come to Anahuac to high island, sit on the ferry, float across to Galveston.
