Pretty true.
We are just 3 SCOTUS picks away from a total dictatorship. We have almost been there the last 7.5 years. We are about to witness some scary times.

Two reasons off the top of my head why SCOTUS isnt as powerful as you think they are

Congress can overturn the judiciary ruling with an amendment to the constitution
Edit: it occurs to me that if congress has the power to overturn SCOTUS rulings than that same power would be extended to the states through an Article V Convention....Probably

Although they do have the power of judiciary review, they have no "body" to enforce their ruling. This happened during desegregation. Several states refused to adhere to the ruling and in the cases of Arkansas and Alabama, who tried to physically block students from entering schools, it took activation of military units (commanded by POTUS) to enforce the rulluing.
