Late October it's all gonna depend on the weather. Mule deer will be out of the high country as soon as they shed velvet or soon after. They should be transitioning to their winter grounds getting ready for the rut. What area of the unit are you looking at?
Elk will be where you find them. I've researched this unit pretty heavily for deer, so if you want to pm me and get into specifics I'll tell you what I know. -
Sorry, this thread was meant for people to post where they were hunting, what species, what time of year. It wasn't intended to get tips on unit 74 though I will PM you now
Maybe that is why no one has posted and it had 130 looks...
I know there has to be some elk and mule deer hunters on this site. Thought it would be cool to reference this site later in the fall and people could share experiences. Heck maybe some of us our hunting same unit and same time of year etc.Comment

Haven't hunted 74 for 12 years. Just in northern N.M. now. Used to enjoy the Hermosa trail. Got to be too many people with guns in archery season.Comment
