So I've got a nice mud motor rig, I was thinking about heading toward Louisiana with. The problem is I've never been. I've driven over the swamp under i10 a few times. I'd like to find a place to be able to rent a house or a motel etc, somewhere w some good fresh seafood, not looking to go offshore. Looking for a place for me to take the wife, be able to get the boat on the water, appreciate the beauty of the swamp, maybe see a gator, and be able to relax. Any suggestions will help. Like I said I've never been.

I would suggest checking out Lake Calcasieu aka Big Lake just south of Lake Charles. Good fishing and you will be in the heart of Seafood country. Good fishing and that Lake is ideal for shallow running boats.
We like to launch at Hebert's Marina on the east side but there are several other options. Google should get you some other options to consider.
Check here for camp/home rentals. There may be some hotel options on the west side of the lake as well. Again Google is your friend.
Good luck and have fun. Good speckled trout and red fishing on Big Lake.
The area you mentioned on I-10 is the Atchafalaya Basin. Its fresh water and a bit away from the coast and seafood your mentioned. But, it is a fun place for an adventure. Google for more info here is a link to start.
