I have a early 99 with emblem on the door. I do not believe the above statement is correct for all 99's.

Early 99s will have a sticker on the front quarter panel near the headlights.

Late 99s through 2003 will have it on the front doors.

      Good advice here.

I too searched for about a month with nothing that fit my criteria.

I wanted a 4-door 4x4 in any color other than white, and low 100k miles.

I found a few that met 2 out of 3 of my requirements at a couple of dealers around Dallas, but nothing met all 3.

Then I found one at a small-town father/son used car lot 25 miles from my house.

It even had front and rear replacement bumpers to boot.

      Be patient, but be ready.

Were you just searching online? Looking for a similar truck without much luck.

Mine is a f250 lariat 2000 with 405k. Love that dang truck. It's a little loud inside but there is nothing like cranking up a diesel 7.3 in the morning.

          Thanks for correcting me.
All of the early '99s I have seen have the sticker near the headlights.
I didn't realize some had the door badges.

At first, yes, only online searching.
I was in Victoria one Saturday and stopped at Mac Haik.
I had a less than pleasant encounter there, with the sales manager trying to sell me a truck that I didn't want(almost 200k miles, white color).

Monday, I asked my local Ford dealer to buy one that met my criteria if he found one at the next auction he went to.
Two days after that, I saw one that caught my eye driving through Gonzales at a used car lot and ended up buying it.
So, yeah, a month or so of searching online and big dealers and I find one a few miles down the road from my house.

The funny kicker, the truck that Mac Haik found and was trying to force me to buy was parked next to the truck I bought.
Mac Haik tried to sell it to me for $3,000 more than the used car lot's sticker price.

Try Craigslist as well, but take someone with you if you don't know much about these trucks.

My son wanted a 7.3 and found one on Craigslist.
His has 294k miles, but there's plenty of these engines with over 500k still pulling strong.
I have an AutoEnginuity scanner and took it with us when we went to look at it.
Ran it through the various engine tests and everything checked out.
The only issue we've had so far is a bent/cracked clutch fork, which is a known issue in the 99-01s with manual transmission.
I bought the truck knowing it had the problem, but got the truck cheap enough to afford to pay the $600 to replace the fork.
The fork is located between the engine and transmission, so you have to drop the transfer case and tranny.
A $40 part ends up costing about $600 due to the labor involved to change it.

These are awesome engines and I plan to drive mine until it quits or the truck falls apart around it.
That being said, there are some common problems with these trucks that you should be aware of:
Front hubs on 4x4s are crap. You'll replace them every 100k or so. Hubs are about $200 each and will take you about 5-8 hours your first time if you do it yourself, or about $500 each side in labor if you take it somewhere.

The vacuum hose for the auto-locking hubs will crack(easy and cheap fix)

CPS(crank position sensor) was flaky for a while. Most trucks that are still running should already have a newer CPS installed. Look on YouTube for videos showing you how to replace one. Keep a CPS and the wrench that fits it in your glovebox. It is not uncommon for one to go bad and leave you stranded on the side of the road. Last time I looked, they were about $10, so not too expensive and relatively easy to replace.

One of the many things I like about these trucks.
You can do most repairs yourself if you want to.
We took my son's truck in to get the clutch fork replaced because I don't have a shop yet.
If I did, I would've bought a tranny jack and done it ourselves.
Hubs, sensors, injectors, etc are all easily DIY if you can operate a ratchet and have the time/patience to deal with it.

Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions.
Google 'guzzles', he has many helpful tips for maintaining/upgrading these trucks.

There is a clean looking 1999 2wd 7.3L in Corpus. If it was 4wd I would jump on it.

Thanks, but I want the 4X4 also.

The 7.3's aren't known for speed and power, by todays standards, but they will last with proper maintenance. My dad has an 01 model with 596k miles. The fuel filter housings are prone to leak, but 2 cheap o-rings will fix that. Run some injector cleaner thru it and put good glow plugs in it when they go out. The seem to eat glow plugs. We've had 4 of the 7.3's. 2002 was the best year made in my opinion. Front wheel bearing are prone to wear with big tires.

Crew cab. Couldn't tell you much else, other than it looked clean enough in the pics to make me check if it was 4wd.

The one I found is a Lariat crew cab. Everything looks good on it, to me, except the paint. Looks like some one spray painted it.
