I worked with a guy who was in Viet Nam, and I never heard him talk about it to anyone other than me. We had a mobile home as an office, and I let him live there and kinda watch the yard at night, just to have someone on premises. I used to come by the office and do my paper work late in the afternoon around 6:00 pm or so, and he would come into my office with a Budweiser. He never opened the conversation about VN, but he would respond to my questions about general things, like his MO, what arms he carried, and some of the places he had been. If I asked a question about specifics, he would say something like, " I don't want to talk about that sh*t, and you really don't want to know ". He told me a lot of funny things, but never the serious stuff. I suppose I shouldn't have asked, but that was my era, and I was curious. I do know that he had two Purple Hearts, but he said they gave 'em out like bandaids.

It's funny this thread came up at the time that I'm watching Brothers In Arms on NATGEO that deals with a bunch of guys in VN. The things they went through together, only to be disrespected and even spit on when they came home makes me sick. No one in their right mind wants a war, but thanks to all the guys that have protected this country ( whatever reasons the politicians gave ) throughout my lifetime, especially those that had no choice.

As mentioned above, most that saw anything or did anything don't want to talk about it. Usually if they are willing to tell a bunch they are pulling your leg.

I've run into a few of these guys and for the life of me I can't figure out what they are trying to gain.

The things I did and saw are nothing I'd want to brag about. I'd just like to forget but I can't seem to do it. I guess I'm slow but I just can't understand their motivation.

When I was a kid we went to the collectible family reunion. On the Saturday they had fire works. My moms friends husband who served kind of lost it when the fireworks went off. I can't remember if he was a Vietnam vet or ww2 vet. You don't pay attention to that when you're like 8. The guys I work with who served in recent fronts don't talk about it except one guy I know. He is a big list in general. Said he got shot and was a sniper but has never shot rifles with anyone from work.

I used to work with a guy who was a combat veteran of just about every war. Im pretty sure he fought the Arachnids at Klendathu as well.
Probably spent his hitch in the Outer Rings. Zegema Beach, perhaps.

My FIL never talks about it but my wife dealt with his issues when growing up. Still don't wake him up with anything but a broom handle. His brother in law also served with him and he got to talking with me one day, just a little. They were demolition guys without borders. Officially stationed in Greece I think but was all over Southeast Asia blowing up everything you might imagine.

Knew a guy in college that worked with a friend of mine. He was a very odd man and spoke about his war stories every chance he got. One night he came to the bar with us and really got to telling some whoppers. Since I was younger and gullible, I would maybe believe some of the stories. He got to telling the "secret and covert" stories and then decided to tell his body count. He claimed he had killed over 450 enemies of the United States. That same night he claimed he had the chance to kill UBL. At that point I knew he was a huge liar. I always wondered why he lied about all of those stories.

Does it every leave us, really?
I'll be indoors when the fireworks start. Been getting worse every year

It do take a while to calm down. I'm 70 now and I figure in another 10 years I should be back to normal. IF I live that long.

Some may remember and have watched the documentary called "The Lost Tapes of Dak To" about the battle of Hill 724. That was my outfit and I was there. I won't tell any stories about it but will just leave this here.
Very few people know about this. It ain't much but it's for all of us.
