Lab pup with bloody stool...what to do??

So I came home from work and my 8 month old lab had diarrhea all over his kennel. Some of it had some of rope toy in it. After further inspection he had little strings of rope in most of it. He seemed to be acting fine once I got him out of his kennel. I decided to go for a little walk/jog with him and about halfway thru it he stopped to poop and I saw some blood on his stool. Not a lot, but enough to make me turn around and not continue the exercise with him. He dragged his butt a little, but still seemed to act normal. Wanting to play with the other dogs in the neighborhood, energetic, etc.

Any suggestions from the GS?? Should I take him to the ER clinic? Watch and see how he does over night?

    Any help is appreciated!

Could be a symptom of a lot of things. Has your pup been vaccinated for parvosis?

Take to the vet probably dehydrated from the diarrhea. My Rottweiler had diarrhea once and then started pooping what looked like blood and it turned out she was extremely dehydrated. Good luck.

I would advise to take him to the vet but they eat all kinds of stuff to make it rough on their backsides. My family has had a lot of labs 20 plus in the last 20 yrs and I have seen what ur talking about. Best to take them in but imagine if you were passing a rope toy. If he has all his shots and go to a vet. No worries. I had a 2 month old puppy(chocolate pass a head of a Olaf toy). It happens and there was some blood. good to go. Good luck.

I suggest taking him to the Vet for some abdominal x-rays if there is any possibility at all that there is any rope/string pieces of that toy that are more than a couple inches long. It's possible that he ate enough of the toy to cause a blockage, or worse, cause an intussuseption. While the toy pieces could pass with only a little irritation, if it causes any damage to the intestines it could become a life threatening problem very quickly. Has he vomited at all?

Yep a trip to the vet first thing in the morning.

Good luck and hope your puppy is ok.

                Keep us posted.

Hard to tell. It looked like there might have been a little in his kennel, but it all looked very similar. Too close to be sure.

He's has had 1 more loose stool poops in the yard. Didn't look like there was any blood in that one. He did eat his food and hasn't pooped since then. He's gone thru almost 3 bowls of water now.

Someone else had a similar thing happen to their pup. My first guess was Parvo. One of our dogs got it's a puppy. She survived, cancer got her 12 years later [emoji24]
Anyways, I think it ended up being hookworms

We have a dog that showed those symptoms and it turned out to be a plugged gland. Nothing serious. Hope it not serious for you.

Thanks for all of the replies. I have sent our vet a message to see what he thinks. I'm sure I'll get a call first thing about our boy. He's been his playful self all night and is getting tired right on time. I'll keep y'all posted.

Pedialite works on pups. If he's had his parvo vaccination, then I'm not sure what it could be other than he ate something he wasn't supposed to, or dehydrated. Good luck.

Well he slept great last night. No accidents. I got up with him early to take him out...he pooped 3 times. All loose stool and there was more blood each time. My wife will be taking him in this morning as soon as our vet opens up. Luckily, we live just down the street from the vet, so hopefully they can get him checked out this morning and there won't be any real issues.

Unfortunately, he's supposed to get neutered tomorrow and he's got a little skin irritation on his belly/chest/inner legs. Not sure what it is. He's had something similar before, but this one doesn't seem to bother him like the one before. We tried giving him the same medicine as before and washed him in his anti bacterial soap the vet gave us, and nothing has seemed to help with it.

Say a prayer for us and the pup today if you would! I appreciate all of the help and support!
