    Way below average Adademy

I dropped my daughter off at church for a pre-mission trip meeting yesterday and I had an hour and half to kill. I was on the west side of Fort Worth so I decided to go 'browsing' at the Academy off Cherry Lane (I normally shop at the Academy near Alsbury in Burleson or off Bryant Irvin in SW FW).
I can't tell you how many 're-packaged' items I saw on their shelves! Obviously 'open box' items that had just been taped up with clear packaging tape and put back on the shelf. I saw several different types of bow targets with multiple holes from having been shot before! There was no 'discount' for being a used item, either.
There were enough of those 'open box' items throughout the store that it made me think this store was used as the local 'junk store' to accumulate 'open box' merchandise from the other local stores.
Has anyone noticed this situation at that Academy?

I wasn't in the buying mood, but I would have definitely insisted on some type of discount if I were going to buy something 'used'.

Store manager sometimes pushing for more frofit.
I have seen that first hand.

They will not discount. I've tried with open boxes of Hornady 180 grain SST'S and a shadow blind that was missing screws on all the hinges and a dented corner. They wouldn't come down on anything.

That academy has always been like though. I have stopped in there multiple times for little things and its always the same story.

It might just be my imagination, but it seems Academy has started going downhill ever since they sold to an investment group a few years ago.

At one time that was their over flow store for the area. It's where clearance and open box stuff went. That's before Bryant Irwin expanded its location though. Sounds like it still may be.

Academy equivalent of Cabela's Bargain Cave--

Agreed...I went to the one in tomball a few weeks ago. The isles were so close together that a cart barely fit, and they were out of a lot of the things I needed.

                Not impressed at all.

Academy is still going strong over near my house, and more than once I have 'bargained' with the store manager to come off the price if certain things were damaged/missing/already opened. Heck I got my bowfishing bow for $100 off because it was missing an arrow and rest.

Bought a grill there a few weeks back and one of the ones they had assembled already had a bum caster on the bottom of it. The manager offered me 20% off which sounded pretty **** good. I didn't take that one but he came up with the offer right there on the spot.

I'm surprised people even go to Academy for hunting/fishing items. So many better places to shop.

That all depends on where you live. Academy here in Victoria has more hunting and fishing stuff then any other store by far. Unless there is a store I don't know about.

That's the sh***y Academy. Can't pay me to go in that one. Bryant Irvin or Arlington are my two.
