I'm looking to get a shock collar for my 7 month old GSP. I'm sure I'm opening a huge box of ideas but figured I would ask the experts on which one I should look at getting
X2 on the TriTronics. But, I have a different model than the sport but cannot remember what it is.
I have had my lab on one since she was a pup and love it. I cannot remember the last time I had to do anything except the beep tone with her. If you train them right with one they are a very good tool.
One thing I really like is that if my dog does start to get into trouble, like a snake, skunk or something, I can get her away from it instantly.
A lot of people have the wrong perception of electronic collars. They are NOT for shocking your dog into submission every time they do something YOU don't want them to do. Rather, they are a great tool when used as designed.
I can highly recommend them.
I've been running the Garmin Delta Sport on my Lab with good results. I have the older model without the changeable probes and works well on my labs short coat.
TriTronics was bought out by Garmin. If I had to do it over again I would go with the Garmin tri-tronics Sport Pro just for the changeable probes.
TriTronics. Have had them same one for going on 8 years. As a pup I would put it on an hour before and leave it on an hour or so after training sessions, so he wouldn't associate the collar with being shocked. Like other said it is a tool, I like that he doesn't associate corrections with me directly. Get one that has a beep for sure.
another for TriTronics.
Research a lot before using. A great tool when used CORRECTLY!
Ran a collar on my GSP every time we were in the field. Kept her out of trouble many times! (see my avatar)
Had her for 15 years, put her down 9 years ago, still miss her.......
Has been flawless for me. In cold, heat, water, mud, etc.
Only thing I did not like about the company is that they factory set their collars to High instead of low so when I was seeing what the lowest level my GSP would feel, shocked the crap out of her for no reason.
If money is no object and you also want to be able to track your dog, try this one. Not cheap but will give you peace of mind if your dog runs off.
