    Yellowstone

My wife wants to take a week's vacation to Yellowstone National Park in late August. We'll be flying into Salt Lake City. Any suggestions on reasonable places to stay in or near the park would be appreciated. Ideas on things to see or do would be helpful.
    Thanks

I believe you can rent an rv in salt lake and then camp. We drove and camped and it was wonderful. The park is giant so figure on 1/4 of the park per day. Really a great destination

We fished there many years ago. I think the whole park is catch & release now, but if you're OK with that, it's a lot of fun.

West Yellowstone (the town) is the easiest access to the park. Getting a room in the park needs to be booked far in advance. Camping doesn't need to be booked that far in advance. There are some good resteraunts in West Yellowstone also.

            Brook trout inn in Montana.
Coulter Bay Village has some cool cabins.
We saw 2 mule deer bucks among the cabins when we were there.

We are taking the Famjly there too!! We are camping tho. Stopping in Colorado to stay at Garden of the God. Staying the for a few days then headed up to Yellowstone. Found a good place to white water raft. Thinking about horse back riding through the park as well. Check out the app road trippers. On the pc it shows everything there is too see. You will not miss any giant ball of yarn. lol

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in West Yellowstone. The hotel and town are very nice with easy access to the park. Hard to find good deals on short notice. We took a spur of the moment trip to Yellowstone and had a heck of a time finding any place to stay.

We also stayed near west Yellowstone, a week will not be enough time. We stayed 9 days and still felt rushed in the park because it is so spread out and driving around can be a very slow process.

Stay in Jackson Hole and just do a day trip(s) to Yellowstone. I enjoyed the Jackson area /Tetons much better than Yellowstone... Yellowstone was way too crowded.

West Yellowstone is a great place to stay. Cody Wy is another and its on the east side of the park. The Buffalo Bill Cody museum there is a must see. Also the drive from Cody to the North east entrance to the park is just awesome. The Chief Joseph highway. There is a lot to see and do there.

Going end of July - Jackson hole for 2 days and remainder in Moose WY @ Dorman's - will day trip into park - we enjoy Teton and Jackson hole more than Yellowstone due to crowds but you gotta see it once

Were here now. Followed some leads on another thread on the trip. We stayed two days in Jackson. Jenny lake, hiking trails and Bar J one night then three days in jellystone. We day tripped from Gardiner (north entrance). It does take a while to get around with speed limits at 35-45 and all the pullover places. Saw a bunch of bison, elk, bear. No moose yet. It's a welcome relief from the Tx heat. Low 40's in the morning this week. We did a VRBO in Gardiner Mt. ( Yellowstone river cabin). Family of 4 plus my in laws. Good times

Been years since I've been. Coulter is nice as is Gardiner and cody. Jackson hole is beautiful but can be touristy in places.

Seeing how you're going in late August the crowds may have died a bit. Still be prepared to feel like you're walking downtown Tokyo
