    Snake shed found. Positive ID?

My mom just found a snake shed on their back porch. Is this what I think? My 3 and 7 yr old play there every weekend. The porch is 40x25 with a 2' brick wall and screened in above that. Only two doors into porch from the yard and house doors. They live on the Brazos river so I knew snakes would be moving with the flood but....

Need help sending pic if someone can help.

I found one curled up around my water heater at the deer lease cabin once, but I think some smart azz put it there.

Yep, Rat snake. Looks like belly scales.

It looks like the skin ripped at the vent. I know what you mean though about the belly scales.

Good deal. I thought I was going to have to hunt a viper down with extreme reserve.
Thanks for your help. My mother went to take better pics and did say it (what I thought were rattlers) matches the under belly skin.

Wish the picture showed the whole skin. From the direction the scales are laying, I think the right end in the picture may be the head end. Sometimes the head does not stay on the shed and gets rubbed off before or after the rest. Still looks like rat or a close cousin.

A non-vemous will have the braided scales below the vent on the underside of the tail. A venomous snakes will look the same as the belly scales. But since it looks like it ripped right at the vent I went by what patterns and side blotches are visible on the skin. It is deceiving though because a rattlesnake doesn't shed it's rattles. It'll look squared off right at the end where the rattles should be.

Anyone who is giving you a positive ID based off that picture alone is really stretching it (and I don't mean the shed).

I hear you 35rem. However I was very worried about a rattlesnake on my parents porch. I do have more pictures. Having a hard time uploading them. But the skin is about four feet long. I'm pretty sure a rattler would have much more girth.
