    Pheasant Hunt question

So I'm getting married next March and all the guys are hell bent that we are having a bachelor party. I'm not into the party scene etc so figured we'd go on a pheasant hunt! Getting married in March so I figured January in Kansas. Anybody have suggestion on location/outfitter/best time to go?

Go earlier. Long hunting season and harsh weather can take a toll on the birds

Agree. I can't help with outfitter as we did not use an outfitter. We hunted the north central part of the state.

A group of my old friends from Boy Scouts and our dads go up to Kansas every year in mid/late November (Scott and Hodgeman Counties) for pheasants. It's always nice and cold compared to Texas and we usually come home with at least a couple birds each. We hunt for 4 days, mostly public land but we do have access to a couple hundred acres of private.

Hit them hard with a tight choke and heavy shot. Some roosters that fold in the air like to run when they hit the ground.

I go opening weekend in South Dakota. 3rd weekend in October. If you want a lodge I would check out biggins in Gregory South Dakota. I've only hunted there once but it was top of the line. Now I know how the other side lives

check these guys out. great time great guides good food good lodge. Definitely consider going earlier. too dang cold that late. We went in early October 2014 and a sweet cold front made it perfect.

Went with Mikey's Outfitting in 2010 and had a great hunt! He has some good ground for deer as well!

Jan. in Kansas, might find some snow on the ground. That's a great time to have some dogs on the ground, as where the birds will hold tight.
If you have a big enough group, there is a lot of public ground in SW Ks. Would need a big group to push the birds.
As far as outfitters, just do a goggle search. Or you can call Jim Call of Call of the Wild Outfitters. Great guy and he will put you on some birds.
Love me some shootin Chinese Chickens!!!

It depends if you want an all inclusive with pen raised birds or if you really want to hunt them.

If you are going to hunt pen raised birds you might as well hunt in Texas.

Kansas public land will make you hunt. In January, you will have it all to yourself. Also their license is for one calendar year so if you hunt Jan 2017, you can hunt the next season on the same license.

                            Yep.
So don't buy your license early, like in Dec, and plan to hunt in Jan. The Ks hunting license expires Dec 31 of each year.

I couldnt agree more with this.

Ive hunted wild birds for years. Me and my dad where talked into going on a pen raised hunt in kansas. We both thought it was a big joke.

And we both agreed we would rather shoot 1-2 birds a day wild and earn them then shoot limits on pen raised birds.

If you hunt pen raised just stay in texas or southern oklahoma
