PSA - Towing hitches can kill you

This is a tragic local story. Towing hitch came loose at hiway speeds, bounced off pavement and came through the windshield and killed an old lady.

Some dude is wondering what happened to his hitch, and probably has no idea he killed a person!

I keep a lock on mine and always in. It can be a chin killer but saves your butt if you are ever rear ended.

Happens more than one would think... I've seen a few lying in the middle of 59 on the way to ranch... long drop receiver hitches, shortys... people forgetting to put the pins in or something..
            dangerous as hell.

Either you've got a huge lift kit, or you're really short!

I'd guess the pin was held my a standard cotter pin/ clip that was loose or weak and gave way, or maybe the driver forgot to fasten it and the hitch rattled loose.

I wonder what the force of a steel hitch at 65mph is? Can anyone do the physics on that?

I've waited for this to happen with the "smart guys" that have 2 huge nuts attached to hitch come off on the highway.

It may have been thrown from an overpass.............according to the news that's really a thing.
