    Deer Camp Ideas

I recently inherited my grandpa's old portable building. If I'm right, which I usually am, it's 12x20, metal building, gambrel roof. After a few minutes of hard thinking, I've decided it's going to become my new deer camp. SwampRanger also volunteered his weekends to help out on the build. With that said, I've seen some amazing ideas and builds on here, so if ya don't mind, post up your pictures of any deer camps you've built, preferably interior pictures. Just wanna get an idea or two for the layout. Many thanks!

I don't have pictures of ours, because it burned down in a wildfire in Junction a few years ago. But, I can describe the layout. It was 12'x20'. The first thing we did was insulate it, and put wood paneling on the walls. We installed a window unit A/C in the back wall. The door was in the center of the front wall. Immediately when you walked in you had a TV, microwave, and a clothes hanging rod to the left, and a small propane stove/oven combination and dishes to the right. We had bunk beds along each side, which ran longs ways from front to back. We had a wood burning stove, a dresser, and a large shelf against the back wall. And, a table for 4 in the middle of the room. We built a covered deck off of the front wall, and then wrapped the hole exterior in cedar to give it a rustic look.

I got on the same lease as you this year. Thought about doing the same thing maybe next year I dont know yet being that I live in Liberty and its only 20 min. away I just havent talked myself into it yet. Hate to not be able to have the camp life though, but my bed at the house is pretty comfortable.

How many or you trying to sleep in this?
I have 2 cabins 12x24 that sleeps 4 in bunks with separate shower and commode area. We used ptc units instead of window units (motel style) they are quieter, more efficient. They have 40 water heater you could do instant hot water for room and have small kitchen area larger or turn restrooms sideways and gain lots of room. We didn't want kitchens in ours. Both share 12x30 deck with bbq pits on ground, all of this is 3' in air. I can send you the plans for these

Right now, it will most likely be me, sometimes my other half, sometimes my oldest son. However, I have 3 boys, new, 2, 4. So, eventually we will all be piled in if I hang on to it. I do want a small kitchen, and I'm looking at single burners, small oven, and microwave. If you don't mind, shoot me the plans, I'm sure I could pull some ideas from it.

I built a small 2 story Gambrel roof hunting cabin on my land years ago from the ground up. It has all the comforts of home. Complete with washer/dryer so you can stay in clean clothes. 2nd floor has two bedrooms 16x32 and an 8ft porch

This was Christmas day 2004 in South Texas. It wasn't quite finished yet when these were taken.

This is what I'm talking about! I don't think I'd ever have to come home.

One thought I did have and you might have already thought about is I would use all wood on the interior either paneling or plywood. Loading and unloading and towing down the road I'm sure there will be some twisting and bending of the building frame and any hardie products or Sheetrock would crack or break.
