I am going to be giving a presentation in McAllen next week and will have an open day on Friday. Any suggestions on things to do while I am there? Also any suggestions on nice restaurants to bring some clients?

I second La Fogata. We used to eat at the original in Reynosa all the time. It's nice to get the same authentic Mexican food without having to cross the border!

My favorite fajitas down there are Kiki's, since we don't cross the boarder anymore when working down there.
Things to do? They use to have a independent baseball team, but that's gone. I usually just eat when down there. Lot of good food. You can also go walk around the stores in the market there in McAllen. Not as cheap as crossing the boarder, but I have found some cool stuff down there.Comment

Koko's would also be a place to try. If you've got all day Friday open head to SPI and hit up Joe's Oyster Bar in Port Isabel on the way. Clayton's Beach Bar will probably be bumping Friday evening so there should be plenty of sights to be seen. Anyone who tells you that you should be worried about your safety has probably watched too much border wars. I feel just as safe down here in the valley as I do when I lived in Houston or Austin. Enjoy your time here.
