Lots of great bows out there like many have said. The draw cycle is what made me switch to an Elite the last time I bought a new bow. I never thought i'd own anything but Hoyt. But dang at 70lbs the Elite draw was like 60lbs of butter. Just feels great all the way through the draw. I like going to bow shops that have a variety of brands and let the bow pick me regardless of what brand is written on the limbs.

If you think the Elite was smooth, you need to try an Obsession Def Con 6. I tried the Elite 34 and the Obsession side by side and the Obsession blew it away in my opinion.

What he said, obsession. If not obsession look at elite, xpedition, new breed. All have transferable warranties. You can get warranty parts if you do your own work, on your bows. Dont have to go through a " dealer network" ( jack up the price on you middle man) . Was a Mathews shooter " fan boy" for years and years. And it was close between the elite and obsession when I finally decided to try something else. Phoenix is the best bow I have owned to date.

I went with a halon 6 this year and so far love it. Smooth, fast, compact and a tack driver. Zips a hypodermic right through a stout porker.

Don't look at any names, just shoot everything on the rack and go with what feels best.

I drew everything in my price range today at The Outhouse in Waco. That got me narrowed down to 4-5 to try on the range. I tried a Matthews, Diamond, Martin, Bow Tech, and one other.....can't remember what it was.

I dialed then all up to their max of 70lbs so it was apples to apples, and quickly narrowed it down to the Matthews Z3 or the BowTech Carbon Icon. I then shot those two for a good 30 minutes, alternating between the two in 3-5 shot groups. Both are dead in the hand, both are smooth, both are quiet and both are reasonably fast. The Z3, for me, wins the quiet category, but the Icon was smoother drawing and lighter weight, and basically equal in every other category as far as I could tell. Next comes the price point....almost the same price, except the Icon is RAK equipped (not that I'm using those parts, but it's value added that I can transfer to the old bow before selling it).

I did not intend to purchase anything today, but that Icon was awesome....so it came home with me.

Congrats! You came home with the bow that will be the best shooter in your hands!

Of the two you mentioned I would go with the Mathews Z3.

I guess that's the odd thing about bows and personal preference. See, I liked them both, but the Mathews had a noticeable "hump" at the end of the draw stroke, and seemed heavier overall throughout the draw, not to mention slightly heavier weight. The only aspect it definitely won was noise....it's crazy quiet. The Icon, on the other hand, felt smooth and light on the draw, no humps or bumps out anything, plus I liked the grip a bit better and it was lighter. SLIGHTLY louder, but not much, and I doubt enough to make a difference to a deer or pig. I bet a little rubber in a few key spots would make it just as quiet anyway. Just my observations and for the record, I was really trying to get the Matthews to win for me, it just didn't quite make it.
