    Broadhead tuning question

Picked up some Ramcat 100gr yesterday. Today I shot them to see how they fly. They fly great & quite. But they hit about 4" low of the field points. I assume that I need to adjust they rest towards the field point, but I just want to make sure before moving anything.

Is your rest already set at the proper height? Because typically it would be a D loop or nock point adjust ment. But I would shoot it through paper first to see what your tear looks like.

I haven't shot it through papar. I've alway just French tune. The reason I was thinking the rest need to be moved it that when I had the rest set up I was shooting Maxima Red's, now I've swapped to FMJ's which is a smaller diameter. Then at 20yrds they only hit about 2"low but as you walk out they drop more. I'll shoot through paper when I get chance today.

We were typing at the same time.

Tune to the broadhead, not to paper.

Your rest should be set so that the arrow is centered on the threaded hole in the riser. Once this is done make you adjustments at the knocking point.

And double check for vane clearance.

Adjust the rest; there is no reason the arrow must pass exactly centerline of the Berger hole. It can be high or low to the Berger hole and be fine. In fact I like my centerline of the arrow to be in the lower third of the Berger hole.

IOW, moving the nock point down or the rest up achieve the same thing; assuming it isn't already way high, and it is easier to move the rest than the D-loop.

You can paper tune but you may still need to broadhead tune. If the paper tear is high then you have confirmation that you need to raise the rest or lower the nock point; both the paper and the broadhead are telling you the same thing. Just don't get lost chasing your tail while paper tuning; if it were me, I would just broadhead tune and be done with it.

What rest are you shooting from? If it is a spring or launcher arm rest you may need to use a weaker launcher arm or lessen the tension on the spring.

You said you went to a smaller diameter shaft, chances are you just need to bump the rest up.

If both groups move up after the rest move then you may have contact issues.

Move the rest up and make sure there aren't any clearance problems.
